I was just thinking about this, with everyone "laughing" at our BoT/Booster hiring process. How bad was the hiring of Saban, I seemed to think it was pretty much like how "bad" our hiring process is, and I think it was:

Let's just take a step back, and let all this BS rumor mill shite die down, just because we might demand a little more, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. We think we should be able to compete with Bama's prowess year in and year out, and more than just when they are in Jordan Hare. I don't think that's a bad thing. When we do win against them it's close, when we lose by double digits, sometimes in the 30 pt differential. Don't let Bama downplay how much of shitshow their hiring process was then

I don't care how their search went down. They ended up with the best.

There isn't another Saban out there. Hell the guys that could MAYBE keep Saban and Bama within range have either said no thanks or not even fielded an interview.

We are so screwed.

It's okay. All we know is a bunch of speculation from a bunch of "Insiders" that have usually been terrible with actual information

Edit: In other words until you actually hear it from the horse's mouth don't take it as fact, not withstanding Saban saying "I’m not going to be Alabama’s coach"

They got lucky with Saban leaving the NFL the same time they needed a coach.

However the biggest difference is they promised to get out of his way and let him run HIS program, which has benefitted them all.

We are interviewing good coaches and telling them they must retain some of the current coaches. It’s a fricking joke.

Their coaching search was a bit of a disaster but they were still in the running for some of the hottest names in CFB at the time. Rich Rod was considered perhaps THE guy in the country and they almost had him. Then they got Saban from the NFL.

Our search is littered with decent names who are turning us down or leveraging us for more money in their current positions. If Cristobal was actually contacted, he preferred Oregon to Auburn. Napier believes he can get a better job in the future (LSU, Tennessee, Texas, and maybe even Bama in the next few years). Sarkisian preferred a coordinator position over the prospect of being our head coach.

Our AD, boosters, whoever is in charge - they’re dropping the ball. Big time.

In the past I coached high school basketball for many years.

It is 100% a mistake to leave the assistant coaches on the staff. Especially if they think they are qualified to bw the head coach.
