Steven was the mastermind behind the Kessler pitch. He’s the reason we landed him. He’s also strong on the scheme side. He’s become the top assistant due to his tactical skills.

I, too, would like more charisma as well. But, he’s grown as a coach and could he a good one. We shall see…

I didn't know that about Kessler. That's good to know. There are plenty of great coaches that aren't as gregarious as Bruce.

I don’t want that but I suppose I’ll have to deal with that in a decade so whatever

a decade is a long time to learn and grow as a coach. so if we have 10 more years of bruce coaching and crooting at the level he is right now, i'm sure steven will only improve

Not sure how true that is but if I am Auburn that is something I am willing to do. I dont see Bruce leaving for a while and Steven might be able to keep it rolling

I was starting to warm up to the idea of Ira being next in line, but if Steven wants to do this, frick yeah. As long as Pearl's style of basketball remains, we'll stay the most entertaining product in the sport, probably by a large margin.

Steven’s impact on Kessler recruitment - sorry it’s AL.com

It seems Steven came up with the pitch. The idea that Kessler and Jabari would complement each other. That Kessler could pop up above the arc to draw the defense out and keep them honest - Jabari then has the ability to exploit the defense and vice versa when Kessler goes low post with Jabari outside.

UNC wanted Kessler to be a traditional big man and that didn’t fit what AU saw in him. It really appealed to Walker and Steven was the guy behind it all.

I give my opinion just like the rest. My opinion is the fate of losing him no longer weighs in the balance. I’m not sure why that’s even controversial but here we are.

Has this ever happened with an HC at AU?

I was being dramatic. But Hey, go read the last football game thread. I'm sure it was brought up. Year 1.

how do we know that? He's always in the background...

I think the current players could give a better review of his practice teaching and if he has any input during the game on plays, etc...

Why wouldn't his son just be a younger version of him. His formula works, why change that?

How many Successful father coaches that teach their sons the ropes and then they become as equally or better than their father's legacy?

Very very few. So it's a total unknown if Pearl's son can succeed like his father.

And remember its more than knowledge, it's personality, etc....
