I’m just concerned he’s not developing. That is a recurring theme on our team the last three years. Got sacked more than any QB last year. Probably in the lead this year after 10 yesterday. At some point, you can’t just throw it all on the OL.

That reminds me of Bo Nix. If we cannot see the routes develop down the field then I have no clue what Arnold is seeing. But I see enough to know JA is working through his progression and isnt just a half field QB. Some of the plays Arnold ran were simply called when the defense had a perfect counter play which is just bad luck or there is an ominous tell on our end. I highly suggest everyone see the Murray film if you want the ability to see 15 or so plays from a high endzone perspective.

The rule was implemented in 2022. Kiffin had run a similar play the year before and it was addressed in the offseason. From Hugh presser after the game the SEC office addressed this rule specifically this summer again.

He won’t scare anyone with a decent defense.

I will say this for him, he showed some guts breaking 2 tackles to run for that 4th and long on the last touchdown drive. He doesn’t fold or panic. But he has to start throwing the ball sooner and not overthrowing wide open WRs.

Dont know why he wont. 68% passer that can run.

And they'll stick a spy on him like OU did and shut down the run. It's not a new story for us. Thorne threw for 300+ on OU last season with three touchdowns. Of course, he also threw a crucial pick (which Arnold has not) but the more SEC defenses can cheat up on the line with little threat of getting burned deep, we're going to have more of these sackfests and low run numbers. Here's hoping he proves me wrong this week.

JA didn't do that bad on the deep ball. He completed two albeit they were slightly underthrown.

He missed one

Cam Coleman loafed on one

Jackson Arnold seems like a great kid and a better teammate, really like that aspect of him.

However, after the AU OU game I went back and watched some of his games as OU QB, and…..

He looks exactly like he did in the most recent AU game; holds the ball too long, thinks he can run out of any play, poor throws missing receivers by yards,….why don’t you all see these same things? What makes you think he will change?

Did this really need a new thread?

Of course. Let's ride.

I like it.

He is somewhere between Throne and Stidham. Only time will tell which direction he goes.

And both of them sucked.

He outperformed Mateer most of the game despite our DL is not feared by the QB (dammit).

He is somewhere between Thorne and Prescott for me. He is a big ole body. If the OL will quit letting him get hit behind the LOS he can make easy first downs happen.

that's a big if in the equation.

That's like saying we are 4-0 if refs were honest people.

I'm with you. Watching it live i was yelling at him to throw the ball but after seeing the sacks from a different angle i saw where most of the issues weren't of his making. We were also about a 1.5 ft of overthrows away from scoring 14 more points. One when Cam slowed up and the other Jackson led him 6 inches too much. Hit those and OU has to back off and defend is differently.

Of course, but what it points to is that its not like he is being perfect in keeping the ball out of harms way. He really got lucky on those two.

I'm not going to beat up on JA, but I'm not going to ignore the deficiencies he has that need to be fixed. He is still basically the same player he was a year ago.

He is not Bo Nix level risk averse. His high number of fumbles at Oklahoma are still cautionary, but for the most part, I am okay with his ability to protect the football thus far.

Just need him to throw the football away more often and we are good.

I haven't seen anything from JA to tell me we can't and won't win with him yet, still need more data.. He has protected the ball wall and been explosive at times.

However, he left a lot of meat on the bone Saturday and it was frustrating.
