Auburn is too infatuated with what Alabama does to be patient.
Chasing Alabama made sense a few years ago. Less so now, as we may be getting closer to the end of the Saban era. We need to focus on being in a solid and consistent state when that shoe drops, and we'll just see how it plays out over there.

I'll say it again, Saban (alone) is not what makes bammer win 11 games a year. Until AU is able to A) stop bammer from cheating or B) ratchet up our cheating to match theirs we will always be "chasing" them no matter who the coach is.
Saban isn't "all that." He just has a machine behind him that will stop at nothing and break every rule to win.

This is the kind of bullshite that made me leave ITAT.

quote:Just MHO, but I think if Gus is still at Auburn when Saban steps away at Bama, they will go for a coach who runs an option very similar to Auburn in order to make us react.

CTT ran what was, for the most part, a standard pro set offense. When Saban took over at Bama, he ran the same style of offense and was going to pull the higher caliber players to Tuscaloosa. Auburn was forced to react and go to a spread/hurry up style offense in order to draw higher caliber players that would not fit in Bama's scheme.
I could see Bama going in the same direction with their next hire, in order to force Auburn to react or start losing the higher caliber players we are able to pull in with this offensive style.

So you think bammer runs a clean program? Seriously? You really think they don't pay players and buy them dodge chargers? You deny that Trent Richardson's mom got a house? I mean this is all well known and documented. Does the NCAA care? Hell no.
I am not saying AU is clean either, but we certainly are not at bammer's level. No one in America is.
I just find it hilarious when people say "it's all Saban." Um, no. Saban left the NFL precisely because he can't out-coach his peers. He must out-talent you to win.

Saban left the NFL because he's a control freak, and the power dynamic in the NFL favors the player while college favors the coach. He also hated having someone else dictate who would be on his roster. Step back, take a few deep breaths, and calm down.

Did they just start this "purchasing of players" when Saban got there? Or did they do it for Schula as well?

How well did Dubose and Shula do with that same machine??? I dislike Saban more than anybody on this board, but going full retard doesn't change the fact he is a good coach...

Dubose was terrible, but still won the SEC championship in '99 (people forget that).
Shula came in AFTER they had been put on probation and the REC had to tone back their activities for a while. When Saban came in, they went "all in" on doing whatever is necessary to win.
