I miss Kevin Steele's Sunday evening press conference

He used to give some really good detailed explanation as to what was going on on the defensive side of the ball, what players were doing, what he was thinking etc.
Have they stopped doing that? If so, anybody know why?

Not sure, but Steele really, really does not like press conferences or our reporters FWIW

Sounds like a fun story there.

A trend that really kicked in last year where every beat writer had a post-game ‘film room’ type article... I think Steele got his panties in a wad over something one of them wrote. Steele’s point is even tho we see the film, we don’t know the assignments or the call... it’s unfair to point out a guy when you don’t know the whole picture.
I could be wrong... but I think that’s where this riff (if you wanna call it that) started.

That’s what I remember. He led off a press conference by saying something along the lines of: let’s get this over with; you guys just make stuff up anyways

If true, speaks to Steele having his players' backs

It's amazing to me that Steele has turned our defense into the most consistently above average part of the team. Outside of a couple of disastrous back-to-back performances against MSU and UT and the season-ending blowout loss to Bama last year, his side of the ball has been outstanding in their ability to keep us in ballgames even as the offense has struggled.
I'd say he is in the top 3 amongst SEC DCs right now. Never would have believed it when we replaced Boom with him after 2015.

Seeing him get pissy with the reporters makes me like him even more.

Remember something to that effect happening. I get it when the media wants to talk X's and O's. I love getting into that stuff, too. Most fans don't understand the difference in a dive, lead, split-zone, or whatever. They just see a run up the middle and want to know why the coaches thought THAT run up the middle would work when the last 5 didn't.
Defense is harder for an observer to understand what the call was. Someone really looking at it earnestly with a fair understanding, which who knows with media types, can still struggle to understand who messed up on a play. You might have two corners playing man while everyone else zones. Then the slot corner plays man, so he looks like he is in the right spot but is the one who blew it.
