Is Byrne on the selection committee again?

Prior to Monday's opener against UNC Asheville, Nate Oats announced the Crimson Tide plans to redshirt Houston Mallette and Naas Cunningham this year. Mallette, a senior transfer from Pepperdine, has one season of eligibility remaining. Cunningham, a true freshman, will have four seasons to play.

They're playing a bunch of guys, I figure Oats will shrink it down to 8 guys or so soon and they'll be better.
But their Schedule over the next couple of weeks is absolutely brutal.

More than likely they’ll figure their rotation out, but one of my biggest question marks for them was how he was ver going to divide minutes in the first place, and it’s already becoming an issue. Second issue is that they look exactly like they did last year. It’s only been two games, but I really see no difference. It was why I never understood the hype to begin with and I honestly believe that they just grabbed top portal guys without actually looking at needs.
Secondly, if you look at their schedule a little closer the next two weeks, it’s comparable to Auburn. Illinois is nowhere near as good as they were last year, I would compare them to when Auburn played Indiana last year in Hoopsgiving. Purdue is vastly overrated right now and only ranked this high because of last year. Creighton literally has one guy on their team and everyone else is pretty average at best. Rutgers is struggling right now to find any rhythm on offense and outside of their two top players, one who hasn’t even played yet, and they aren’t that good. Honestly, outside of UNC and Houston, the others are not really formidable, unfortunately.

As for Holloway, I think most Auburn fans rag on him because of what he said about Auburn and Pearl. If he had decided to transfer and said cordial things about Auburn and Pearl, it wouldn’t have been that big of deal. However, how he trashed Auburn and Pearl, you reap what you sow. So, I get why Auburn fans would enjoy seeing him struggle after what he has said since he transferred out.

quote:Just looked up the Mallette kid, I'd love to know how that conversation went..."hey i know we went after you in the portal and I know you played over 31 min/game all three seasons at Pepperdine and I know you shot between 41%-44% fg all three seasons but we'd like you to sit the bench a year and practice."

Most of these players are very gullible and believe they are the best and think wherever they go to transfer they’ll start immediately. Especially in basketball, there are so many teams you can transfer to and make an immediate impact and have a chance to go to the tournament as well. It’s why their roster makes no sense. It’s almost as if all of those players have no common sense and didn’t realize that only 8 of the 13 players will get significant minutes. I don’t have any sympathy for them either. I’m telling you, it’s going to be a problem because they were all told they would get to play. Again, it’s not just them. Look at Duke. Their 2025 class is loaded as well, but again, only 6-8 players will get significant playing time. But yea, to answer your question, most of these basketball players believe they will not get cut and believe they are the best thing since sliced bread and act surprised when reality hits them in the face.
