Or, perhaps we didn't have the best personnel this season

Then I guess bad personnels seem to follow HH everywhere he goes, from Penn St. to Auburn.

Didn't he have some pretty solid OL at Vandy? Isn't he generally a pretty well respected coach in the business?

Hand is getting to the point where he’s going to live or die by his own recruiting and development. Braden Smith was a gift that patched a lot of holes on the OL- literally on the field and mentally for the group.

That is disappointing. I was hoping we would go in a different direction. Our OL play was so inconsistent this year. We had veterans across the OL too.

I feel it may be more on the offense we run combined with not the right fit at qb than just "hand is a bad ol coach." What offense do we actually run? We sure don't run a pass friendly offense with a qb working through progressions.. watching both those true freshman last night working through progressions and spreading it around instead of the "rpo" with pretty much one target makes me jealous. Maybe if we used Stidham a little more like a pro style qb it would help the OL know who/how to block on passing downs.

I’m sure defensive line coaches in the league respect his ability to make their DLs look vastly superior

Can't make chicken salad out of chicken...Other than when Tega played late in the year we haven't had a real tackle playing for us in 2 seasons.

I bet you'd be hard pressed to find someone more critical of the OL than me, but it ain't all on Hand. Next year will tell the tale.

Will it? Granted, next year's O line will have a higher ceiling, but will also be much less experienced. If you were to make the argument that it is the personnel not the coach, I don't think next year would be the year to finally solve that riddle.

I'm fine with the extension. Offensive play calling and QB jitters can play into things as well. I wish we'd adjust to some quicker routes to mitigate JS holding on too long and lack of experience, but I'd rather keep the staff together for more than a year for once.

Then we better get the backup QBs ready cause the starter is a dead man walking.

I believe Tega, Horton and Harrell all proved they can play at this level. Our best games were when Tega played left tackle late in the year. Ashley must come along.
