Peyton Barber wins us back to back teams basically by himself yet isn't starting RB?

Gus not ready to say Peyton Barber is starting running back. Barber had 125 yards and a touchdown today

He has a cannon but they have to do play fakes only with one single read. Leaving him in the pocket to check reads has been a disaster.

Roc fumbles last year and more this year. Yeah, lets keep him as an option.

I may be the only one on the JJ train still, but we can't just leave his tools on the sideline. Stay the course - the dude actually had some pretty throws today (TD to Ray anyone?), and the interceptions were mental mistakes. Those can be fixed...who knows if they will be or not.

Not naming Barber the starter is just clerical. He'll get the majority of the carries. Dude is balling out.

It's illogical right now to believe JJ is going to have some sort of transformation. We were convinced he would show progress after UL, but he made the EXACT same mistakes.

Death Valley is going to rattle him badly, and he'll most likely do it again.

You seriously think that was a pretty throw? JJ almost fell down throwing that and sailed the crap out of it. Ray saved his butt on that throw.

Malzahn has always refused to bench QBs, regardless of how poorly they play. This has always been one of the things that has frustrated me most about him. The only way I see Malzahn ever benching Johnson is if he single-handedly loses the team at least two games, and by then it will be too late to even matter. So, I just hope JJ figures it out.

As for Barber, he has been the only above average part of the offense. He is basically the reason that AU is 2-0.

You're probably right, and he has another week to rectify. Look, we don't have much to boast about at the QB position. JJ may very well be a flop. However, it's even more illogical to put in Sean White at this point - my hunch is that you have to double down on a guy that has the tools to be a great quarterback, not play chicken and pull him. Confidence in Johnson is worth it's weight in gold right now, even if it is misplaced. Malzahn, the guy that heads that team and gets millions of dollars to do so, obviously thinks the same thing.

I agree, but that gold may just sink the ship.

Do we have a better option? It's a value decision. I value having consistency at quarterback and instilling that confidence in a three year player that could potentially be great if he settles down, rather than valuing the idea of air-dropping a green QB with an entirely different skill set and less grasp of the offense. Not talking about you, but it's easy to run your mouth online about how the 2nd string quarterback should get the reps. shite, we did that last year. I just like playing devil's advocate.

Funny - most of this board was wanting JJ last year over Marshall. Anybody miss Nick?
