I agree that if Chaney can stay out of foul trouble, he can make an impact. But again, he has had Broome by his side, so he didn’t have to worry about being the focal point. Teams are going to guard us differently now. This game against Purdue will be a preview of what we will look like without Broome for the next month, for better or worse.

Speaking of Kelly the over playing at the 3 point line I really like his length getting to the rim. If he gets shut down by a secondary defender maybe pass to the open guy or if not continue to the rim. Same for CBM.

Broome was good last year however not as good as he has been playing so far this year but our roster has more scoring ability up and down the roster. As long as we continue to be physical and play hard nosed defense we can still have 3 scorers on the court. Just have to get to the rim score or collect fouls.

Not to mention Cardwell and Chaney will have to play D a little more different since foul trouble is not an option.

I’m honestly hoping for the best. I’m also just being realistic. The SEC is a juggernaut. There will be no off nights in the league. South Carolina, considered a bottom tier team in the SEC, just beat Clemson, probably the second or third best team in the ACC, last night. So yea, those games that we thought would be probably wins go to toss ups, and until I see us win a road game this year, I don’t feel good about any of those road games.

Exactly. Pearl is going to have basically revamp his strategy and we will see how this looks. This is a gut check time now. The players will either embrace this challenge and we do great without Broome or they fold and it gets ugly really fast in the next month.

See, that’s where my basketball brain just can’t see past that Broome caused so many mismatches for our players to take advantage since he was the focal point. Broome was as constant and consistent player who would get 20-15 every night. We now have to have those same players up their scoring to just make up the difference and then hope other role players score more than their average in order for us to have a chance. And then on defense, opposing teams are now going to drive the ball to the lane more to get Cardwell and Chaney to foul, because it’s a good bet that they will. It’s just a crushing blow right now and it really changes the strategy on how we need to win games going forward.

I think I will hold off on the doom and gloom until we find out what the MRI shows and how long Broome will be out.

Also see what Ol’ Bruce can come up with. Not like Bruce hasn’t coached almost his entire career with undersized bigs.

Pin down screens, flex cut still works without a big as the primary option on offense

Yup. Bruce will find different points of emphasis. Chaney is really hard guard on the flex cut

Goodness the panic here, do we even have any indication how long he's out

I wouldn’t say doom and gloom, just being realistic. You don’t lose a player like Brooke and continue to play like we have been. Especially in basketball, where one player can literally make you go from average to title contender. I think we have good players, with CBM being the best outside of Broome, but we have never seen these guys play without Broome, and that’s a concern for me. As I said earlier, we will get a preview this Saturday against Purdue how good these players really are when they are the focal point now.

No panic, just acceptance of the reality of the situation. And we’ll know later today his injury and status more than likely.

If I had to guess amputation is a possibility, but not likely.

Bruce said it was a shoulder separation. If no surgery is needed, there could be a minimum of six weeks of recuperation time.

No lol. Just from scanning twitter and Hokanson posts I've seen anywhere from he's playing Saturday ranging to out until SEC Tournament.

Same injury he had last preseason though, when he played again 6 days later. Imaging could show more damage though, maybe?

Johni Broome is the Martin Riggs of shoulder separations.

Yeah, nothing definite has been said by anyone credible regarding a time frame of how long he will be out. We may not be elite without JB but I believe we are still a good team.. All this other is just bammesq nonsense.

This weekend will obviously give us an indication of how things will go whilst JB is not with us.

With that said I believe the injury has a silver lining. It is adversity. It keeps them on their edge, not allowing them to get complacent. Teaches them how to win without broome.
This is what I’m going with, whether it’s sunshine or not. Regardless of injury, there will be games where he gets in foul trouble or has a bad night. So this team needs to know how to win without Broome. It’ll pay dividends in March

Great point… we need to see what the rest of the team can do!
