He beat a lot of shitty teams in his career. Interesting enough you chose this game to brag about SW. That was probably SW’s best game yet all the points came from the kicker’s leg.
We were a shitty team. And yeah it's hard to score in the red zone against good defenses unless you're an elite QB or have a great rushing attack. Sean wasn't elite and we didn't have a great rushing attack yet. He was really good in that game though and pops off the film.

We saw half injured Boobee running the wildcat instead of Gatewood.
We also read that his family and friends attended the Florida game because Gatewood was told he would get snaps. Yet he didn’t get any snaps while Bo was spraying incompletions and turnovers all over the field.
You believe what you want to believe though.

I agree he wasn’t elite, but we led the conference in rushing yards by nearly 500 yards. Our OL was a Joe Moore award semifinalist as well.
Nix isn’t elite yet but he’s at least putting points on the board far more frequently than White did.

Yes, our rushing attack got on a roll partially thanks to solid and efficient QB play. There’s a reason our worst rushing attacks in Malzahn years dating back to 09 have been with horrid QB play. They work in tandem.

We did well against the Arkansas’s of the world. There’s no doubt about it.

We know for sure what he told us in the press conferences.
Which is that his touches would increase.
Just because a coach tells you that he is going to try and do things, that does not mean the situation will be there for him to do so. You cant take things so literally
Im still a believer that you can not play two quarterbacks. Doesnt matter what the coach says.
Its not like Joey was some kind of unstoppable force when he was in there. It disrupted the offense a lot of the time

I was concerned everyone would move on and we’d forget all of the old talking points

I'd agree to an extent but there are a ton of examples of coaches having specific packages and situations where a 2nd QB can provide a nice change of pace. Mullen did it to us this year with his 3rd stringer.
I never saw anything that made me think Joey was a better answer long term than Bo, but in the same light I saw enough of Joey to think he could be valuable in short yardage or Red Zone situations. I also thought based on Gus' preseason comments he probably deserved dedicated scripted drives to start the 2nd quarter at least early in the season. It would have given Gus a chance to script a 2nd series each week.

Our basketball and football teams are too good for me to not bring up debates from 2016

Which should maybe tell you something about how the staff viewed Gatewood's abilities....

Abilities as a wildcat? That’s silly.

Why is that silly? His supposed strength was benched in favor of a hobbled Boobie. Pretty telling imo

You ever heard of a coach called Gus Malzahn?

but wasn’t one of the main reasons he left early was to visit places and be enrolled by January?
I suspect that was his justification, but IMO he could have still done that after the Iron Bowl. Again, I'm hoping he gets a win against uga and UF before he leaves.
I wish the kid the best, but he's still taking a pretty big risk. I agree that it would have made more sense to finish the season at AU (where he's never more than one snap away from being The Man), and wait a little later in December to see how the coaching carousel is playing out. Pretty good chance that if Mark Stoops doesn't land a bigger job this year, he will next.
OTOH, though Gus seemed to handle the whole situation poorly, it was one less distraction down the stretch.
I do hope everything works out well for you Joey.

He was loyal and don’t remember him taking a whole lot of visits as a committed recruit. A lot has changed since four years ago as well. He needed time to go on visits again. He didn’t owe Auburn anything. Auburn told him they didn’t need him, so he left.
