No matter how talented the WR core is, Thorne is not talented enough to win football games when the defense is taking away the run and forcing us to throw. He plays scared when the game gets tight. He dances around in the pocket avoiding sacks instead of feeling the pressure and getting rid of the fricking ball.
There were so many wide open WRs that it hurt my eyes. 14 was so fricking wide open on the INT thrown towards Coleman (injured arm). He could have walked into the endzone he was that wide open.
The worst part about it.....Watching Freeze on the side lines look lost with every INT from Payton. Like, WTF FREEZE!!!! Thorne earned himself some pine time. He deserved to be benched!!!!, yet Freeze fricking kept him in the game. Thorne was drowning under the pressure and was in way over his head. 5 PICKS!! Sure, sure. One of them was called a pity PI in the endzone, but we all knew that was a gift. Refs gave us a pity touchdown at the end
Hugh's worst moment was the pick where Thorne stared down his WR and got his arm hit by a blitzer and it fluttered 15 yards into the defenders hands right. It was such a crucial moment of the game. And yet....Freeze left Thorne in the game. It was absolute insanity. People were booing and shite. Everyone could see it. Thorne deserved to be benched.
Alston sucks. Three years of fumbles and zero production. Cobb looks better and should have been used in the passing game.
Keonte Scott is NOT a fricking Cornerback. Stop trying to put a square peg into a round hole. He plays nickel. He also likes to fumble punts and give fans panic attacks.
Fairweather is turning into stone hands. Dude has dropped some crucial passes this year and is underperforming.
Durkin made adjustments and completely shut them down in the second half. Unfortunately, the defense gassed out and gave up the TD run after being on the field a ridiculous amount of time. Corners were inconsistent, LBs played well and the DL pressured the Qb well throughout the game.
OL played well from my viewpoint. Throne held on to the ball too long and made the OL look bad. A few times, they did look bad, but that shite happens in the course of a game. Overall they performed well enough for Thorne to get the job done, and he didnt. He threw 5 picks instead.
At this point fellas, its safe to say......if Freeze sticks with Thorne at the Qb spot....were getting the doors blown off us versus Oklahoma and Georgia. Hell Arkansas may sneak up on us.

Huh? Dude had two carries for 10 yards. What did he do to suck today?

Thorne isn't elite, but Tom frickin Brady isn't winning many games with that pass protection

I didn’t read everything, but have an upvote for this:

Excusing bad play
The bad play is an inevitably given the shortfalls we still have regarding the “Joes”
Like it or not we’re baked in with Hugh. We have to give him reasonable time to complete the rebuild. Year 2 is too soon.

We have more talent this year

Yeah and they threw lookout blocks all day.

So, shouldn’t there be improvement? Not Georgia, but enough to maybe not look worse against Cal?

Cliff Notes observation: we got our asses whipped by a bunch of got damned nerds.

It’s more nuanced than that.
Hugh isn’t the problem. Neither is Thorne, who’s not the long term solution either way.
