Per JGT, Sankey is holding up allowing Freeze into the league impacting both AU and UT.

My translation, if Nicky calls, Sankey will allow it...

Sankey doesn't have the authority to dictate who we hire as our OC. If the AD and Pres approve a multi year contract we will hire Freeze and there is nothing Sankey can do to stop it.

Sankey has already discouraged SEC schools from hiring Freeze. This was just earlier this year. I wonder if suddenly he would be allowed back into the SEC or if Sankey is still standing by his sword in regard to Freeze.

He can say it is frowned upon but he can’t stop them

There is zero evidence to support this claim. I want to get rid of Gus too, but just kill off the program if we think Hugh Freeze is the guy to restore our greatness.

WTF is our greatness minus Gus years. I’ll hang up and listen.

We went undefeated under Bowden. Undefeated under Tubs. Won a title under Chizik (and Gus doesn't get all or most of the credit for that).

Meanwhile, your man crush is a cool 21-19 in the SEC in the last half decade.

And how did each of those guys finish their AU careers?

I'm as sick and tired of Gustav as the rest of you, but I think it's time to let go of the myth of AU's "greatness".

A couple of great seasons here and there, surrounded by years of mediocrity, isn't the hallmark of an elite program. No coach can "restore AU greatness" when it never existed in the first place.

This.^^ I love Auburn. We're a good program that has our moments. But we have never been a perennial contender. The fact is, that program across the state has changed our expectations. If I'm not mistaken, Gus is still above our program's average winning %. Bowden and Tubs also didn't have to coach against an absolutely historic Alabama program. And aside from just Alabama, Gus has had to play more Top-25 and Top-10 teams than any previous Auburn coach.

I am frustrated with our lack of consistency, and I think we can do better. But I also think that given the ineptitude coming out of our administration, the likelihood of us making a bad-to-mediocre HC hire soon enough and ending up in the dump for a decade is a strong possibility.

I'm not crazy about Gus, but he had a big part in the only Natty we've won in most of our lifetimes, and took us back for a second one. Show me another coach who has sniffed a National Championship who is willing to come and play and recruit right between Saban and Georgia. In Auburn, Alabama. For this administration. And these boosters.

If what's being published is true, our boosters and administration will screw this up. And we will end up in the cellar for a number of years. And we will deserve it.

Support your HC and give him the tools he needs, or fire him. Period. And if you fire him, you better have someone better on the line.

that's all good and well, but we've all seen the complete lack of offense as of late under Gus. And it isn't new. It happens way too often. It is disgusting to watch. So something's gotta change.

Gus has a better winning % than our historical average in every way you can really cut it. Overall win %, win % against SEC teams, win % against top 25 teams, etc.

Auburn has also played the most difficult schedule in the country since 2013, and it’s not even close. Since 2013, we have played 35 games against AP top 25 teams, 13 against AP top 10 teams, 11 games against AP top 3 teams, and 6 games AP #1 teams. First in every category. Against #1 ranked teams since 2013: Alabama is 3-0, Clemson is 1-1, Ohio State is 1-0, Auburn is 2-4, the rest of college football is 0-75.

I’m not even trying to defend Gus Malzahn. Bringing back at much as we did this year, 7-5 was a huge disappointment. All I’m saying is the absolute outrage, and cry’s that this is the lowest point in Auburn football history, when Gus is performing above the historical average while playing the most difficult schedule in the nation, seems unreasonable.

And comparing him to other coaches who play in the SEC east or ACC doesn’t seem fair either. Gus probably wins 9-10 games every year against any other schedule. The Tennessee loss this year was the first time Auburn lost to a team that wasn’t ranked at some point during the year in the Gus era.

According to the rant, and thanks for disclosing it there first

JGT says our admins and Gus is fighting the SEC to allow Hugh Freeze to be OC at Auburn.
Bowl won’t like it but I’m hopeful we get him. We need some optimism again and that’s the only way to get it without complete staff turnover.

Seems like we have 3 wins in that category.
