why would he our WRs were meh at best. No seperation and nothing special. If Freeze has faith in Davis that is good enough for me.

Uneasy hire. Don't tell me about a guy's analytics who has coached two years at GSU and Hawaii. Just make the hire and move on.

Seems like a lot of these passing game system guys (air raid, Briles) need/prefer/want straight up yes men/grunts in certain cases - perhaps just traumatized by Malzahn and Tony Franklin. This would be opposed to a guy who is known as a big recruiter.

They better build an off the field staff that rivals UGAs

Saw that he is a “5 Star Coach” according to analytics. A lot of Auburn’s hires were based on analytics using a firm.

Analytic Firm Twitter

Hugh Freeze have they eyes emoji to one of their tweets about a “diamond in the rough” WR Coach.

Seems like Freeze has bought into applying analytics into his hiring methodology. We heard the same type of talk on Montgomery (#1 ranked OC in CFB) and the DC (higher highs, lower lows). IDK if Cohen had any influence on Freeze's use of analytics, but Cohen uses them heavily and that's why he hired Mike Leach. With the # of decent WR coaches in CFB I'm certain AU could have hired someone that gave more feel good vibes so I'd lean on this being an analytics-based hire. Having said that, I'd sure like to see how these analytics approaches are constructed.

Hugh clearly is going all in on the analytics but I’m with you. I have a hard time buying analytics on a guy with such a limited sample size. JLee said Hugh also loved his south Florida ties. That I can wrap my head around.

This 5* coach analytics stuff seems like a new high point in excuses Auburn fans can make up at any given moment.

Give me a young, energetic coach from a fertile recruiting hotspot that is fired up at the opportunity to coach at his alma mater over a 50-something’s been around the block career receivers coach all day.

I get why this hire will be hated, but this could be a great one.

You don't think AU could have hired a CFB WR coach in all of the southeast with a better "resume"? IDK if an analytics approach works (e.g., Kiffin in-game), but this seems likely what Freeze is doing. From a stats perspective I'm really interested in seeing what these analytics methodologies look like.

I simply cannot buy into this being an "analytics hire" with this small of a sample size for a coach.

The N would change the confidence level. Stats 101.

Maybe so - maybe not.

The more I listen to this Bartoo guy the more credible he sounds... he likens it to 'Moneyball' tactics.

He’s very young and inexperienced to get a $400k paying P5 job.

He just graduated college 6 years ago and was an intern 3 years ago.

Seems Hugh got lazy like Gus did by hiring Grimes again.

I know several emergency medicine doctors making more than that at a comparable age in a high pressure environment.

Your ageism is showing.

Our good buddy JLee says

"Hugh Freeze might have hit a grand slam with his WR coaching hire.

The coach is an Auburn alum, a rising star, a five-star coach according to analytics and a very strong recruiter in South Florida."

Then there's one of them click links that takes you to a place you have to give him money to read the rest. But before that it sounds really nice.

Kind of out of left field type hire. I am pulling for him.

I was impressed with Hilliard. I was hoping he would be retained.

Hugh didn’t get lazy like Gus. May end up a bad hire but I like the energy he’ll bring. If he has a dynamic personality then it will be a HR hire

There was nothing in last year’s production that amazed me about Hilliard.

Heck it was painfully obvious Camden Brown was our most talented receiver yet we barely threw the ball his direction and he finished 7th on the team in receptions and yards.

From a recruiting aspect, he signed 1 receiver in Sorey who could be a good one. But Sorey’s best commitable offer was AU and several projected him as a better DB.
