The Original AURant Official Coaching Search Thread
Very entertaining. And yet, somehow eerily familiar

Amazing how many still wanted Petrino. Guess some still thought he could coach. Glad Louisville took that bullet for the rest of us.
Still think Jimbo was never in play, just Sexton doing Sexton things.
And of course, NONE of the supposed AU insiders had a fricking clue during the whole process.
I wonder how much deja vu Gouge is experiencing right now

Kentucky is probably already on the phone with Petrino as I type. Auburn will be ready to hire the next up and comer who will average 7-8 wins a season for the next 7 years until he has a terrible year and gets fired. Rinse and repeat.
Nailed it.

I love all the anger towards PM even back then. And the bitching about Gougue.
Ah, some things never change. 8 years later.

I love that we were getting Fisher then Jimbo and ended up with Gus after we passed on Kirby.

IMO we thought or still have the coach we wanted but he is playing this weekend. Steele is a smoke screen IMO. However, I could see him getting the job if the original plan fails.

I had a cautious optimism then. I knew I had seen a lot of good things that worked but a lot of things that to this day he never got corrected.

I have no idea if or where I am in that thread, but if I was I was a huge Gus Malzahn advocate.
