So nothing meaningful to report from the open practice?

I wasn't there, but some of the stuff I've gathered from various outlets ... it wasn't a scrimmage but there were scripted 11-on-11 situations.

Bo looked fine, no obvious or egregious mistakes. Finley also looked good; some people thought he was the better passer.

Dee Davis and Jarquez Hunter are back with the 3rd team offense.

Looks like we've got some S and CB depth out with COVID or minor injuries. Maybe both.

Base defense really seems like it's going to be this 2-4-5 nickel package, with Fair coming in for the 3-4/3-3-5 front.

Ja'Varrius Johnson (slot) and Demetris Robertson (flanker) seem to have solidified their positions. The last spot (split end) still seems up for grabs, lots of rotation among Shed, Capers, Canion, etc.

JJ looks like 1st team PR. Kaufman and Shivers KR.

Pegues and Fair together on short yardage defense.

Smoke, Knighten, and Puckett seem to be a rotation of 3 at Safety. McCreary and Pritchett at CB. Looks like Ro Torrence is who we expected Dreshun Miller to be.

Offensive line continues to rotate among 7-8 guys.

Anders Carlson [REDACTED].

I said when Milller signed that he would struggle to beat out the CBs we already had. I still don't understand taking him really other than to just load up on depth. I would have much rather that spot went to an OL.

Miller was a grad transfer so he only counted against the 85, which isn’t really an issue this season because of the Covid year plus all of our transfers out. Plus, OL is super top heavy. 7ish leave this season and it’s been reported that coaches are happy with what’s there for this season.

I think this upcoming year is the time to bring in transfer OL. Plenty of bodies will be needed to refill that room and they’ll need upperclassmen to balance the holes.

Miller has 2 years of eligibility left so he’ll help us out next season too. Next year’s corners, according to the roster, will be Miller, Simpson, Pritchett (unless he has a monster year), Ro Torrence, and AD Diamond. We’d be thin without him, IMO.

So even next year he will be our 4th best CB and thats not counting any recruits coming in.

Its not a major deal or anything. Just something I think we could have done differently.

He wanted to come here and the trade off was essentially nothing because he’s a grad transfer with extra eligibility. And he’s quality depth at a position where he’s going to get snaps - being the 2nd string corner next season means you’re getting playing time in this league. Plus we really don’t know what we’ve got in Jaylin Simpson (didn’t participate yesterday, unknown reason) and 247 didn’t even mention Ro Torrence in their write up of yesterday.

Weird place to be critical but this board always knows best
