Dude on offense is White. Melton is the guy wrapped around his ankles.

I figured as much. Just surprised we havne't heard about how they felt about him coming in. No, "He looks great just need to get himself in playing shape" kind of comments from what I have read. He should be a monster

PHILLIP MARSHALL: FOCUS AND INTENSITY AS SEASON NEARS
AUBURN, Ala. - It's been just more than eight months since Gus Malzahn was named Auburn's head football coach. He vowed on Dec. 4 to make Auburn a championship program again. And the work began that night.
There was a staff to be hired and players to be recruited. There was a scarred and dispirited team to be made whole again. There were speeches to make and hands to shake.
Spring practice came and went, followed by more recruiting and more speeches. Finally, it was August and time for preseason camp. It was then that the famous Malzahn focus showed up. When it's time to get ready to play, those close to him will tell you, Malzahn's intensity and focus go to another level.
You can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. It's almost time to play.
Seventeen days before the season-opener, some questions still need answers. Some of those answers will come soon. Some will take longer.
Who will be the quarterback? How will the rotations look at running back and wide receiver? Who will join Jake Holland, Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy in the playing rotation at linebacker? Will Kiehl Frazier, after moving from quarterback to safety, be able to progress quickly enough to help out? Who will help Dee Ford rush the passer off the edge? Will senior Demetruce McNeal, who missed the first 11 days of practice, shake off the rust in time to reclaim his starting job at safety?
And maybe the biggest question of all: Are the scars of 2012 really completely healed? Can Malzahn's first Auburn football team summon the confidence it takes to win consistently in college football's fastest lane?
Malzahn knows well what he's up against. He plays four games against teams that, as of today, would probably be double-digit favorites over his team. He plays four games that would be considered tossups. And two of four nonconference games - Washington State and Arkansas State at home - certainly can't be viewed as sure wins.
The fierce competitiveness that drives Malzahn will be on display every Saturday. Sometimes his team will have enough to win. Sometimes it won't. But the real mission will be for this team to be better every Saturday than the previous Saturday and for it to play Auburn football the way it has been played for so many years.
If these Tigers do that, they might have a season that shocks the college football world. And they might not. But Auburn football will be on its way back.

First-time starting quarterbacks thrive at Auburn if they finish what they start
Going all the way back to 1957, when Lloyd Nix guided Auburn to a 10-0 record and the national championship, playing with a first-time starter has not been a problem for the Tigers as long as that starter has kept his job throughout the season.
Since 1982, Pat Dye’s second season, 10 first-time Auburn starting quarterbacks kept their jobs from start to finish. And in those 10 seasons, the Tigers won 93 games, an average of 9.3 wins per season. They won nine games or more in seven of those 10 seasons.
Trouble came when first-time starters were not able to keep their jobs. In the same period of time, six first-time starters lost their jobs before season’s end. In those seasons, the Tigers won 31 games, an average of 5.1 wins per season.
So, if recent history is a guide, there is no reason to fret that there could be a first-time starter at quarterback in Gus Malzahn’s first season as head coach, as long as the same guy starts against Alabama that starts against Washington State.
Here are the numbers:
FIRST-TIME STARTERS WHO KEPT THEIR JOBS
1982: Randy Campbell, 9-3
1984: Pat Washington, 9-4
1986: Jeff Burger, 10-2
1988: Reggie Slack, 10-2
1990: Stan White, 8-3-1
1994: Pat Nix, 9-1-1
1996: Dameyune Craig, 7-5
2005: Brandon Cox, 9-3
2009: Chris Todd, 8-5
2010: Cam Newton, 14-0
FIRST-TIME STARTERS WHO DID NOT KEEP THEIR JOBS
1985: Bobby Walden, 8-4
1998: Ben Leard, 3-8
2001: Jason Campbell, 7-5
2008: Kodi Burns, 5-7
2011: Barrett Trotter, 8-5
2012: Kiehl Frazier, 3-9
One more note: The last true freshman to start a season-opener at quarterback for Auburn was Travis Tidwell in 1946, and even he was technically a single-wing tailback. Back from World War II, he became the first freshman to lead the nation in total offense.
Evening thoughts and impressions
* Is Jonathan Wallace a contender for the starting quarterback job? Most of us had the imperssion a day ago that it was a two-man race between freshman Jeremy Johnson and junior college transfer Nick Marshall, but offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee insisted after this mornings practice that it is a three-man race and Jonathan Wallace is very much part of it. I suspect we'll have know who the starter will be not long after Saturday's scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
* The player Auburn could least afford to lose? It's center Reese Dismukes. That's not because his backup, Tunde Fariyike, isn't a good player. He is. But Dismukes brings toughness, maturity, intelligence and leadership that no one else could really match.
* Word is junior college transfer Kenny Flowers has made nice progress at linebacker. Defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Ellis Johnson is looking hard for someone to join Jake Holland, Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy in the playing rotation. LaDarius Owens and Anthony Swain also have had some good moments.

That is so stupid. Of course if you are winning, you don't pull your QB. IF you are not winning, then of course you make a change.
