According to the Bunker, ol' Tubs is in AU right now.

I'm assuming that's a reference to the GT Heisman trick, but I failed to make the connection as to how/why.

Don't have any idea what a GT Heisman trick would be and didn't mean to reference anything

NM will start. JJ will play two series per game for the first 3 games. He will then have a undisclosed injury. He will not play again the rest of the season unless NM goes down.
I could see this.

Sorry, probably could've worded that post better.
I think "Greasin' the Rails" is some sort of reference to the railway-greasing that ultimately birthed the "Wreck Tech" parade tradition, but I don't see what the content of the posts has to do with it.
The Tech train slid past the Auburn stop and went on to Loachapoka - the players had to walk back, late at night, and they were so tired the next day that Heisman proceeded to beat the everloving snot out of them.

Apparently Ben Bradley had some sacks today

I know the story but didn't piece together that JGT would be referring to that lol That is a pretty obscure reference. Also, I love the GT rivalary I wish we could still have it and the wreck tech pajama parade

quote:Because we'd be far better off with a legit backup who could actually practice with the first team and potentially be effective if needed. How many times in the past have we failed to have a credible #2 guy and it hurt us?
Why not do what McCarron did and RS unless needed. If the starter goes down, you burn the redshirt. Otherwise they just don't play. Let KF and JW hand the ball off in mop up duty
quote:^This thing that he said right here.
I say, start Marshall, let Johnson backup and not redshirt. If he ends up performing well, with his physical ability, I could see him being a first round pick. He wouldn't be around for five years anyways. Of course, if he doesn't perform well none of this matters.

In what ways does being RS not allow you to practice with the first team? Also, he will always be ready to walk on the field at a moments notice. So I'm not sure where you are going with this

So basically what you are saying is that you want him to sit on the sidelines, the same as if he redshirts, but instead of potentially saving his eligibility in case he decides to stay or what not, you want to waste a year to do the exact same thing
I think some of ya'll are missing the point that you can burn the redshirt at any time. So essentially I am saying that Nick Marshall starts and the only reaosn to burn JJ's redshirt would be if Marshall goes out or ends up sucking. JJ won't get meaningful experience going in as mop up duty so why waste eligiblity in that situation?

No idea how Gustav would handle RS for JJ, but if history is any judge he would spend more time running the scout team than practicing with the starters during game prep. Sure he could step off the bench at any time if NM went down, but I tend to think he would be better prepared having faced real live game situations facing defenses not consisting of his own teammates.
All this is based on my assumption that NM wins the starting job and that JJ is clearly better than KF/JW. If the staff doesn't concur with the latter half of my assumption, then he should RS without any thoughts of him playing in 2013.

You can have a QB2 practice like a QB2 but just not play to preserve his RS. There is no limitation to how he practices and just because we used QBs in the past for scout teams doesn't mean we need to do it now. We pointed to Alabama as an example of a team that has a true QB2 be a redshirt when they had McCarron back up. He practiced and worked as the backup but never played unless McElroy were to go down

Mop up duty is not passing but handing the ball off. I am not quite sure what type of ultra valuable experience JJ or anyone else would get doing this, especially against a demoralized defense that has already given up. Hard to argue that experience is greater than the benefit of an extra year of eligibility
