They know what he's capable of and there's no reason to risk getting him hurt before the season. Let the younger guys get more work.

Jones you left out this part.. "Walkon Wil Appleton is a much stronger passer than Cord Sandberg. Sandberg threw ducks on 15-yard passes in the passing drills, which surprised me. The arm strength is just not there".. I think we can officially rule out Cord lol.

On the sidelines covered in bubble wrap if I had to guess..

Two more receivers, Sheffield and Jackson out of action.

Nah, he’s white. Everyone knows white QBs are all pocket passers. Real film junkies. Bring your lunch pail to work kind of guys.

So are we talking like Sean White athleticism or Chris Todd?

Haha. Yeah I didn’t see that, not intentional.

Edit: I was pulling notes from AL.com, not 247

What if nix can run the read option better than Joey can throw?
How would anyone know? You need an offense to be fully live to assess that.

That’s 100% working against Joey Gatewood right now. Of course he isn’t going to be the passer Bo Nix is, but we saw the ability he has on the ground against Purdue in limited time. He can’t even display that in practice if they aren’t going live.

What we saw was less than a handful of snaps in the final two minutes of a historic blowout. Even Purdue had backups in at that stage and there’s no doubt in my mind they wanted nothing to do with tackling Joey given the circumstances

We know very little about both guys still

Here’s 247’s note on the QBs today:

quote:

Nix was the most accurate passer in passing drills. Joey Gatewood was inconsistent, but had great velocity on throws when he was on target. Offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham was giving Gatewood the most coaching, it appeared, during one period of passing drills. Walkon Wil Appleton is a much stronger passer than Cord Sandberg. Sandberg threw ducks on 15-yard passes in the passing drills, which surprised me. The arm strength is just not there.

He’s fast. But do we see Nix carrying the ball effectively 172 times like Marshall did in 2013, or how Cam carried 264 times. And their runs kept defenses honest and opened up lanes for the RB’s. That’s when AU won under Gus Malzahn.

Definitely not a night or day difference in accuracy from that video.

For Nick, that’s 13 rushes a game. I think it’s realistic to see Nix carrying the ball 10 times a game, which is close to what Marshall was doing in 2014.

If you watch Nix’s high school tapes it’s pretty clear that he’s a weapon when he runs. He ran a lot. His arm just gets all the attention from fans.

I know there's a difference in throwing motion and what not... but you'd think a dude who got drafted to play baseball (an outfielder no less) could throw a decent 15 yard pass

I had the same feeling. I think they need to let them go live for at least part of the next scrimmage. Its time to find out who's ready.
