WHY ARE WE YELLING?
I bet this means Malzahn already knows the starter though.

Just not sure how you accurately judge someone with Joey’s skillset without going live. Which at least tells me they know where he stands

Joey’s teammates said Joey turns into a different player when he goes live. I agree.

Meant offseason. Got damn it!!! I’ve had this thread up for weeks now and you’re just now telling me this shite.

Marshall is right. Gus has turned into Tubershell 2.0. Let’s see if goes back to the old Gus this year.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn said the quarterbacks will not go live at any point in fall camp

Translation: We will see both Gatewood and Nix against Oregon because our head coach STILL can’t figure out which type of offense he wants to run. It’s mind boggling.

So since spring the QBs have only been live once? Am I understanding that right?

Not going live has to mean Gus knows QB1 right? Otherwise, he’s either not confident they can be protected or that they will just magically be gamers. Only one of those reasons is good

I know we are trying to avoid injuries but I really wish Gus would let them go live again. He got fooled once. He cannot miss again.

Some clown on here yesterday was already blaming Guy for Swartz injury. Too much blocking for receivers.
If he took the QB's live and one of them got hurt, the fallout would be epic
Goes to show you. There is no right decision
IM OK with them not being live for another week or so. It would be nice to see them once before the season but no need to beat them up 3 weeks before the game
Trust me, I see both sides.

Wait, what does KJ have to do with a non running QB having success?
Been one of those days so I haven't checked this in a while.
The stats are pretty telling in 2017 when KJ was healthy vs when he wasn't healthy. Stidham, when a DC was worried about the NFL back taking over looked pretty amazing...as he tends to do when he doesn't feel pressure. However, I don't have time to grab the specifics, but just think about how our O looked against Clemson (KJ was out) or LSU 2nd half when they completely shut down KJ who was admittedly at 80% that game or uga (KJ was at 75%) in the SEC title game. Stidham looked like a different player because when DC's could focus on him he wasn't a great QB, honestly he wasn't even a good QB, ala 2018.
The OL also was totally different when KJ, with his jump step, could turn a no gain or 1 yard loss into 4 yards. There were multiple times in 2017 where the play was completely blown up and KJ found 4 or 5 yards putting the O in 2nd and medium vs 2nd and long. Stratically that put D's at a significant disadvantage, the numbers looked great but it was about KJ and KJ alone.
Someone list the 2017 OL as a good OL in this thread, but once you get past the offensive production stats they really weren't that good...in fact KJ covered a lot of sin that year. That OL gave up 11 sacks and 17 QB hurries to Clemson, are you kidding me. That's some pee wee type stats and it happened to us in a major college football game.
Honestly, the OL in 2014 wasn't near the OL in 2013 but Nick, like KJ, covered a lot of sins.

Someone knows something Gatewood moved from -160 to -285 as the favorite as the starter. Nix is +220 and books arent risking a ton. It would take millions to move the line that much and no one is laying serious money on that.

I've never understood our fanbases obsession with QB's being live...I'd say that is common in more than 95% of situations. I played for 5 seasons in college as a defensive player in the 90's and I have never once hit a QB on my team unless it was a scout team scrub.

Joey Greatwood is the guy.

Yeah it’s pretty commonplace, but don’t let the Auburn board tell you that

This year is unique. Two guys who have never taken a meaningful snap are neck and neck and one of those guys best attribute is his legs which can only be tested accurately in live play. If one gets hurt, that sucks, but it answers your question as to starter. They have to play football at some point. I’d rather know what I’m going in with than just hoping for the best. Again, this is not a normal year
