Don’t forget California is game 2. Not saying we are going to lose but we have to win that one to go into conference play undefeated. As shown by the NMST game last year if we don’t show up to play we can lose to any team.

That or our DL transfers are panning out and giving our OL fits

I hope that’s the case. It’s going to take a few games to establish our offensive identity (run or pass) but defense needs to be wrecking heads in the first four games. We need a shutout against AAM and hold Cal, UNM and the Pigs to less than 2 TDs so that we go into the Sooners game with a full head of steam.

Is he practicing catching with one hand for some reason?

Dude should be using both hands to catch the ball during practice. I want sure catches, not showboating..

I’m saying backup QB isn’t the issue right now. OL is. Lew and Wade better get their shite together and stop getting blown up in the middle. Wright has struggled some but at least he has been getting after it. Still needs to improve.

He said Lew is making the right calls but for some reason its not translating down the line...we have to figure out where to put Wade.....

Is that just some coachspeak to light a fire under Wade?

Edit: I see others mentioned the same thing. He also talked up the late transfer. Both ;seem to indicate he is calling our starters "girley men". (sorry I dated myself for you younguns).

I was hoping OL Carter would get a chance as he was highly rated but he looked to be carrying a lot of bad weight coming in and may need to burn some of that before getting on the field.

Coaches have spoken very highly of him, Carter, but yeah its always followed by..."he needs to reshape his body".

If you see some of the practice clips, you can pick him out easily and thats saying something for our offensive line, they arent a svelte bunch of individuals.

I for one feel vindicated in my arguments. You however are wifey material with your loyalty to that dare we say it...scrub. On that note if you were right you have big ole kahoonas, huge ball sack that dragged on the ground.

Got to stuck to my guns. Jr year of HS I thought he had the goods and I still think it. I'm just having some fun before the season starts though just because I know so many here like Hank (I like him too) and it might ruffle some feathers lol.

Was going to point out Raikes too about the DL, but he's already been mentioned. Coaches have talked about him a few times plus he played under Durkin so he should have a leg up. Lew probably does need to get stronger long term though.

Blockton and Faulk both said in their interviews that the defense was so jacked up that they were tackling when they weren't supposed to and the coaches got on them.

Faulk was asked about Amaris and said "Once he gets everything down pat, he's going to be stupid good."

During the viewing window Geriner and Thorne were the only two qbs working with our starting rotation at Rb so I don't think it's a leap to assume that HG is qb2

King had another post about Percy Lewis saying he took some reps at RT for the first time today. When he did it was Tyler Johnson playing LT.

Well whatever the case, the podcasts are lighting up with Freeze comments about the OL. Its now "the biggest worry for the team", "all the efforts to fix the problems from last year, and its still a concern", etc. etc.

Marshall, thats interesting that they moved Percy to the right. It may just be a case of Tyler Johnson has continued to improve and passed Miller. Course going up against Faulk and Amaris Williams would give anyone fits.

Thoughts Corch?

I don’t know exactly what is going on with Percy working with the 2’s I guess sending a message to get better and earn the spot because we need better then what we are getting on the left side of the OL. I commented on that in the spring as well and preached about it almost all fall camp.

Personally I never say the infatuation with Big Percy coming in. He got a few starts at MSU but was kind of meh outside of pass pro. So it’s not like he was a truly proven commodity coming in.

Again as I’ve been saying all fall the OL has to get better and as I said when Thornton had his meeting with the press last week when he said there isn’t much difference between the 1’s and the 2’s I replied on here that’s not good. You want separation between your starters and your backups.

Got 2 weeks to answer the call out and get better. How it turns out I don’t know. But it’s not a surprise to me

Percy wasn't with the 2s. He was still with the starters but at RT. Miller was the one who got pushed out of the starters when TJ worked in at LT

Percy was absolutely with the 2’s in practice yesterday at the right side. Unless the reporters are lying.

Ahh. I stand corrected. I didn't see the interview. I just read it in one of the notes and it didn't mention him with the 2s. That's a little more concerning.

I’d assume some is cross training and trying some different groupings up.

I think that's what we're seeing too. Freeze talked about competition, and some step up and it's good for them, and some can't handle it. With a guy like Raikes in there wreaking havoc, maybe those guys are having to adjust the way they play against a dominant D-lineman like that. It's ultimately good, because Raikes is looking like he's the caliber of guy they will see against Bama, UGA, Oklahoma, etc.

If Raikes stays healthy, he may have one of those seasons for the ages.

My guess with that is seeing what would work in case someone gets hurt. Johnson is probably the 6th best OL right now, but I think he only plays the left side. If Miller gets hurt, the best option to get the best players on the field might be to move Percy to the right.
