Which is probably better than any we have had during that time.

It is a weird hire, but seriously, can someone provide some stats from his time at Clemson or LSU or Bama to back up why Steele sucks?

Who did you guys honestly expect? The fan base is ready to fire Gus next year if things don't pan out. Who would be jumping at that chance?

This is not the best hire, but it's not a horrible one either.

I expected to just promote Lance. Not go out and pay another shite coach probably a million bucks with a buyout to come be a lame duck

However, LSU is working to keep him this AM.
Whoa, you want to talk about epic melt - imagine TD if LSU outbids us to keep Steele

He gave up 70 points to West Virginia. Lsu gave up 20+ points for 10 straight games for the first time in their history.

This was my expectation too. It seemed to make the most sense given the soft ground Gus stands on.

I agree, but it's just the way the culture of the game has changed. When it gets to the point of soccer, then it will be ridiculous. Are you familiar with how fast coaches can be canned in the top-flight European leageus? It's crazy.

Yeah, was it Chelsea who just fired their coach after he brought them success they've never had?

Also, their D was a big reason they had that losing streak.

Coach O isn't coming. Pat Dye ain't going to let no coach come in here and start firing / hiring people. STEEle is a good old boy with Alabama roots Coach Dye is happy as a pig in mud and the good old boy system for Jay Jacobs wins again

FootballScoop

We really need a no FootballScoop policy. That place just regurgitates information by non-vetted sources.

While I don't think this would be a great hire, it's a good one considering the cards we have in our hand. He had a young, inexperienced team (sound familiar?) to work with this year and they finished in the top half of the SEC. I'd be vaguely positive, especially if LT were to stay.

I think some of you don't realize, relative to our situation, how bad of a time this is to be looking for a DC...and I'm kinda baffled at what some of you are expecting.

@FootballScoop As The Advocate points out, when LSU hired Kevin Steele, LSU AD Joe Alleva would only give Steele a two year deal (vs. 3 some get)…

LSU Def. coordinator Kevin Steele, best buddies w/John Chavis, may be leaving LSU for AU to get away from polarizing Ath. Dir. Joe Alleva.

There still would have been a meltdown on this board.

seems still realizes Jacobs is more willing to give up a stupid contract than Alleva is

Not that they never had, but he won the EPL last year only to be canned this year. You literally cannot have a down season at some clubs without firing the coach.
