Side note: I had to listen on the radio today. A UNC homer cast. They said if they game had been rained out UNC would have gone to the CWS as the higher seed. Is that true?

The 3 best teams in the field in my opinion

No way that’s true.
I thought the same, but I am certain the color guy said that very thing.

We could have played Tuesday. But yes the higher seed would go if tied 1-1.

The real fun is if the rain had started before the fifth inning was completed with Auburn up 13-0 and persisted through tomorrow, pretty sure by rule UNC would still go but obviously Auburn would have protested the shite out of that.

Does anyone know how this coaching staff has worked around our scholarship limitations with no lotto?

I have been curious to know this as well. I know it’s been a struggle. Part of it is getting some talent in state.

Auburn Baseball Twitter
Check out the twitter page for clips from yesterday. Still trying to find the game to rewatch the 1st inning.

I'll explain it later, but in short it shrinks our talent pool to guys who are upper middle class.

Alright, so Auburn and Alabama lack the advantages of private schools and public schools in other states that offer nearly anyone scholarships due to outside funding (Hope, TOPS, etc.).
What that means we have to do is shrink our talent pool and look more OOS for players. Specifically, guys who do not need a higher level of compensation to come play.
To start, college baseball teams have a yearly allotment of 11.7 scholarships to give out to a roster of 35 guys. So no one on any d1 team is on a full athletic scholarship. One thing that helps is if you are on any bit of athletic scholarship, the OOS tuition is waived for in state.
This leads to having to go after smarter kids with better grades and kids from wealthier families.
The coaches on staff make a huge difference as well. Since Butch has been here we have had world series players and relentless recruiters who spend tons of time away from home scouting and bonding with kids from all corners of the continent.
Your baseball players are different kinds of kids than the other major sports. That's why your most successful baseball coaches nowadays are a little more on the relaxed side.
