Lots of teams have been running a ton of "nickel" or like you said with a hybrid S/LB/Rover as their "base" defenses with the way teams throw it around these days. But having studs on the DL and a freak at the Star/Rover are key to run it successfully. If not, and the offense has a good enough run game, they can kill that kind of defense on the ground.

That pretty much ends the Arnett hire talk. I don’t see him co-DC with the success he is having.

It was pointed out to me so I can’t take credit for it. 
It’s very possible he could be Co-DC with Kelly too. Doesn’t seem likely with Arnett. I don’t know why Arnett wouldn’t want his own staff.

If you’re running 4 down linemen then 4-2-5 is definitely base now. That third LB would be lost covering the slot every play. I’ve never been a big 3-3-5 fan but the way offenses are trending it’s becoming more viable. I just always think back to playing Mizzou in the SECCG and our run heavy offense was feasting on the 3-3. But that offense was feasting on every defense by the end of the year.

For sure. He’s mentioned as a HC candidate in the next year or 2 anyway so if we had him it wouldn’t have been for long. I think T Will and Crime dog could pair up nicely. I could see Zac and McGriff splitting S/CB roles like McGriff did with Woodson a few years ago, but would likely move C Rob to an analyst role because I doubt T Will would be a Co DC without a position group.

I'd genuinely like to see the venn diagram of the #StopTheSteele people vs. the people who were upset about the Freeze hire. Need to know if we'd just be pissing off the same group (worse), or if we'd lose the whole damn fanbase

Think it's going to be someone not mentioned yet. Same guys that love Freeze love Steele too right? Have a feeling both of those groups are the same folks

Leonhard not staying at Wisconsin. Freeze would impress the hell out of me if he could get him to come to be DC.

I don’t know and don’t care about what AUtigers07 says or even who he is. The rest of his Twitter is deliberate and football coaches are usually disciplined and not careless. I think his Twitter bio portrays a message that he intended for it to portray. Simplest explanation is he will be CO- DC. Hoke reported like three days ago that he wanted the DC job all for himself and Brother Hue told him no. Does he come without retaining his title from Louisville? Doubtful.
