Yeah, in my very next post I also said there’s time to get better, but that needs to happen soon. The stats as of now reflect poorly run offensive team, which is what it looks like on the field. There’s still a ways to go, but the concerns are legit with us heading into College Station in just 11 days.

Au_251 is a little teenager with an unrelenting whirlwind of fragile emotions that surround him everyday. Don’t mind him.

He has gone through spells of this same shite before, but then his Tourettes kicks in and he starts blasting Gus to pieces. Couple times I actually asked him about the sudden changes of heart.

He went from:

“it’s time for Gus to show out”

to a month later:

“Gus' teams have always looked retarded more often than not, playcalling has always been shite.

There are calls Gus makes that are sooooo bad that not one other coach in the country makes as bad decisions. He is completely head fricked and needs to go.”

Probably unpopular, but from what I have seen so far out of Nix does not impress me. I know that Oregon plays in the 4th were good, but most of the time he just doesn't look the part.
I would think it would be safe to say that he was chosen over Gatewood because of his passing ability. Does anyone think he is a better runner than Gatewood? So, he is in there for passing, and really not doing well. And, we need something to open up our ground game. Why is Gatewood not getting a shot here?

Do we really trust Gus to make the right decision at QB at this point? I think the Bo and Pat story blinds a lot of folks. I hope he comes out this weekend and lights it up and makes me look like a fool.

“Gus showing out” and the other posting style are literally two ends of the spectrum and he crosses the spectrum so quickly that it gives me dang whiplash.

I do not understand why we aren’t running more designed runs with Nix. Nix is probably a step quicker and faster than Gatewood. I get Gatewood is more power, but not sure why we aren’t exploiting Nix’s athleticism more to open things up for our other playmakers.

That is a good question. He had a few good runs in the Oregon game. Maybe Gus is just holding that back for the bigger games.

I agree. Nix runs pretty smart with the ball. Doesn’t inflict any more damage upon himself than needed.

I think it's pretty clear that Gus is prioritizing Bo's health in terms of play calls that give him a running option.

You think he Was he doing the same with stidham? All of stidhams keeps seemed to be designed as well.

Yeah. I think Bo's running options will be expanded in the coming weeks, though.

It seems that way but I just don’t understand his logic. His offense excels with running the zone read/rpo frequently. You have a kid that can run and throw. Let him do both. If he gets hurt, he gets hurt. I mean Nick Marshall ran it consistently with a pretty slim frame and survived. Bo probably has a little more size than him. Run the kid.

This. And from what we’ve seen so far, Nix is not a very accurate passer and makes dangerous throws into coverage.

Also Malzahn getting cute on 3rd and short would not happen with Joey. It would be straight power, and he’d keep the chains moving. Just like Saturday night. The Oline let the linebacker come in untouched again, but Joey ran him over and picked up 4 yards.

I think so/hope so. He's different that Stidham although I think a lot of us are concerned he'll end up being used in the same predictable ways.

But while it's fair to criticize similar patterns from Gus on some things, I think we've gotta wait a few more weeks before we can really get on Gus for not letting Bo use his legs. So far Bo had meaningful yards on the ground in a game where we really needed it and didn't where we didn't. Assuming it's really part of the offense, this is one of the rare situations where I think "holding back" makes sense. He's a freshman QB adjusting to college/SEC ball with a nightmare schedule ahead. Save his body to the extent we can.

I'd like to see a couple called runs this week where we probably don't expect the same physicality, and then opening it way up against A&M (unless it's somehow unneeded).

Joey:
7 attempts, 3.1 YPC

Nix:
9 attempts, 6.8 YPC

Excited to see what Joey can do with an expanded role but he took some losses against Tulane. He hasn’t moved the needle for me yet either. Not his fault. Super limited role but it’s hypothetical that he can move the offense behind this OL. They suck at run blocking so having a QB dependent on running seems less than ideal
