Looks like Cowen might be hunting for employment soon:

Why would he lose his job by working by the letter of the law until the gray area was made more clear?
Dumb take. Recruiting will be fine. Not like we were taking a massive class this season anyway.
Better yet who do you want replaced that is committed?

It amazes me how many on here are acting like we haven’t had a plan in place for either scenario.

Isn't it an auction?
Last bid wins, emotional irrational money, and outright steals.

Basically. Which is why I couldn’t care less about getting into bidding wars in July.

Exactly. None of this matters

Winning will matter this season in recruiting. The money will be there.

Falzone, White, Perry, and throw a million at a couple of interior DL. This summer has been disastrous for recruiting and the blame is on that idiot Cohen

Yep. It’s funny watching Ohio State fans melting down over this more than ours are. Counter to the narrative, they took the same position we did.

Falzone, White, Perry,
Replace Falzone with who? Not like we were gonna land a top QB like a can’t miss guy when the earliest he would be expected to play would be in 3 years. And if you did and invested $1m in landing someone if they lost the QB battle to Knight after Arnold is done then they are transferring anyway. The days of stacking 4 elite QBs are over. Hell or even having 4 QBs on the roster.
White - what’s wrong with White at the Flex TE spot. He’s not a 5 star but I think he has really good ball skills.
Perry - high upside. We will have 4 running backs a head of him next year. Same as QB. Can’t offer big money to every spot on the team. It’s eventually going to go to 105 players. 65ish will be paid players. The rest will be scholarship players and the top 25 of that rest will get some pocket money.
Plus I still think nothing is settled on the NIL situation. Not until some litigation is done

That’s a hole that’s never going to be finished digging until it’s too deep to get out of.
College football will collapse under its own weight eventually, but until then, bad ethics will win the game.

Except for the fact that this year, kids will start signing NIL deals and be locked in come August not December.

Some will, sure. Most will more than likely still wait until closer to national signing day as they continue to entertain offers.
Unless i'm mistaken, there is nothing that requires them to sign the NIL deals in August, that is just the first point tha the schools can start sending out the official offers.

Yes, but I’m wondering if there’s anything that prohibits the schools from coercing the recruit to go ahead and sign the deals, thus legally obligating them to the school and rendering “signing day” kind of irrelevant. They would already be obliged to play there.

Absolutely. It will probably happen with some players. The ones with any negotiating powers, probably not. Don't see many teams giving top players ultimatums in August that they will rescind the NIL offer if they don't sign it right then. The player will just go get another one somewhere else.
All that being said, we haven't been the only big school operating this way and Cohen said at media days they have a plan in place to change how they operate if a ruling like this happened. So, we will get our fair shot with guys and will see where it all plays out.

Even if you’re a 5* kid, you’re going to not sign a multimillion dollar deal, risk having a serious injury your senior year, and end up with nothing? Unless there are injury clauses in the contract, I’d never let my kid risk that.

How is that any different than how things have been?

Because they haven’t been able to sign NIL deals prior to signing day before.

I have a question, what is everyone's problem with Cohen? To me he's done a stellar job, he was wrong for this, but I honestly hoped he was right.

I agree, I have nothing against Cohen and his decision to "play by the rules". Now I think a lot of people want a scapegoat and someone to blame anytime anything goes wrong (nothing has really gone wrong yet). Cohen just happens to be the next guy in line to blame. Recency bias is a real thing.
