This has been one of my points since the beginning. Of course he had to have some buy out… But giving him the same percentage buyout that most other coaches have was absolutely stupid. Nobody wanted him. 75% of the total remaining on his contract versus 50% of the total remaining is a significant difference. Auburn really really sucks at recognizing and understanding leverage. I believe we paid Leath more than the remainder of his contract to go away. I reckon it's an easy thing to do when you're dealing with other people's money.

that part

if we had hired Kiff, a huge buyout would have made some sense

Freezus was damaged goods, but the idiots who have financed our program into ruin somehow thought he was a sure thing, despite his track record of mediocrity and failure since the last time he beat Saban

Personally, I'm not sure who in the current landscape that fits the criteria, but if we move on from Freeze, i'd much rather get away from hiring someone that's supposed to be an "offensive genius" and go back the other way and hire someone with a damn good defensive mind, let them hire a good OC and get out of their way.

we've had some pretty decent defenses throughout all of this mess and it always seems to be the offense that can never pick up steam, all while having these supposed offensive genius HCs. not sure we have anyone in place up top though that can identify a good coach at all, so we likely just end up with more of the same.

How much time will he need? Will the grass be greener with Franklin?

Ha, hopefully that won't actually happen and I wouldn't be thrilled. I do think he would be an upgrade, and a decent sized one, over our last two hires. Not that that's saying much.

That's extremely likely.

Franklin would be an upgrade.

Hugh looks like any random drunk dude on the golf course.
