overweight

I didn’t want to come back in but another poster had learned from her Dr that the reason Covid has ravaged the overweight is because of the massive amounts of fat. Fat is already in a state of inflammation and the virus attacks that and spreads throughout the body intensifying the symptoms which includes pneumonia, which is the biggest cause of death along with heart failure. Not sure the validity of that take but it certainly makes a lot of sense.

78% of hospitalized COVID patients are overweight. In 18 months how many initiatives have their been to get people to get themselves under control. A great opportunity to deal with a serious issue but instead we blame everyone else for their poor health choices and the consequences that result from them.

So are you ok with people dying because they are overweight? You know, because they are not in great shape?

I hate to break it to you but more people are overweight in the USA than not

That is no excuse. Just a thought. It’s not ok fir people to die just because they are overweight.

I have been aligned with you on this subject until this. It’s like saying it’s ok for people to die because they have diabetes.

I don't want to anyone die, but I also don't want to have to wear a mask everywhere and get injected with a shot because of others peoples poor life choices.

The initiatives were championed by Michelle Obama and then rolled back by the next administration on her birthday.

No initiative will work if quality nutrition is expensive and shite food is cheap anyway. But like Lanier said, America is fat.

I don't know where you get this from...many communities have local farms that you can buy fresh produce usually at a cheaper rate than the grocery store. Fast Food is an issue because it is fast and easy. Good quality nutrition takes work and thought and a lot of people are lazy to do it.

I like pretty much nothing about the Obama's but I appreciate her efforts there. However, I work in the children's health industry and other than lip service nothing really changed except it was a little more difficult to sell/buy junk food in schools. It was something, but not nearly enough.

Well that should be the initiative. We are spending literally trillions of dollars right now because of coronavirus, that is where a lot of the money should be going.

I can’t tell you of the first farmer’s market around here. I think that’s what old people do though lol. I’m talking on a per calorie basis. A nice meal with fruits, vegetables, and lean meat will cost more than your number one item at McDonalds. Publix which is amazingly fresh costs more than piggly wiggly.

Fast and easy stuff is a huge issue no doubt and I’m not going to lie I dont have it in me to cook a nice clean meal. I sometimes grill. That’s pretty much it.

I call BS on this. Why? My wife is a nutritionist and she has shown some of her clients how to actually save money and eat very healthy. You also don't have to have meat to have protein. We eat very little except for some fish.

You notice I didn't say farmers market...but local farms where they sell their produce fresh.

Publix is high and not as fresh as you would think. You may have to go to different stores but you can find good nutrition at a reasonable price. You just have to know what you are looking for.

Wife texted me this morning on
My way back to Georgia. Her hospital has 100 Covid patients right now. 47 in ICU on vents. Of those, the majority of them are in their 50’s like me. Most will die. Yesterday, a healthy 36 year old died and today a 35 year old is on his death bed.

I generally try to stay out of these conversations for a myriad of reasons. I run the recruiting thread and I don’t want people to associate me with political shite - my priority here is to inform the board on recruits and get them excited about guys coming in & also serve as a peace counselor when shite hits the fan. But most here know by now my wife is a doctor and I’m left of most here. I’m not a dick and I get along most with the righty tighties here (Corch, Lanier, Rocky, Chex, Aub Spr, and so on). I grew up in Georgia and we have invested our future there. Those are my dogs. We’ve been through a shite-ton throughout the decades.

I’m vaccinated and so is my wife. I was vaccinated early because she was and she has to rotate through the emergency department because she has a board certification that qualifies her to flex into those roles and the contract that she works on (as well as most young physicians) means the hospital owns her time. No big deal. She signed up for it and she’s the last one to complain.

She’s seeing mostly the same. A small percentage of what she mostly saw last summer but mostly 30-60 year olds that are vaccine eligible. They’ve vaccinated a ton of family members and friends because of it — seeing their dad/mom/brother/etc on a machine changes things.

I know a little about most of you. Most of you are reasonable people perfectly capable of making your own choices without pressure or judgement. I’m not interested in trying to change that. I just hope that folks here argue with compassion and empathy. We’re all flawed and we’re all trying to figure out what’s best for us.

Pretty pleased with how this has been discussed here. I’m excited to know there’s so many people here that give a frick. Be kind to eachother and hopefully when this next phase passes we’re ready to kick arse and roll into conference play Y’all baws be good and take care of those damn good families of yours.

For arguments sake - politics aside - of which I'll proudly tattoo Independent

Nothing political about not wanting to take an experimental gene therapy when the FDA hasnt granted approval, companies have been given blanket immunity from judicial litigation, and our government/businesses are coercing citizens to take it against their will.
So now that the cat's out of the bag and quickly into the arms of untold millions upon millions... hasn't there become OVERWHELMING pressure to rubber stamp the process a success and good?

(because what's the alternative)

No not an opinion...solid data on finding options in your local area. You have to want to do it and you can...much like saving for retirement, putting your kids in private school, etc...

I absolutely get that. I do. But, dont think its only over weight people. Obesity is a issue for people with the virus but its not like some kind of line drawn in the sand. There are other factors that we dont even know yet

Im just saying, dont think its only fattys that are getting and dying from it. Its not.

And I am not OK with possibly transferring something that I am carrying to someone just because they ate too many cheeseburgers. Regardless of what they are, you would be the one transferring it to them.

I really think everyone needs to step back , take a deep breath and make some better decisions. I always hated the mask. I still do. But honestly, If I have to put the stupid thing on to go in Publix to get some food in order to keep from spreading something, is it really that big of a deal?

I do not recommend clicking this. I'm placing it here for reference only. But here's a morning hit-piece by AL.com's Joseph Goodman on the subject.

Failure of Auburn coach Bryan Harsin goes far beyond football field

Among other advantages they enjoy, this State media agitprop is why Alabama is successful.

And for a great example of Not-Even-Hiding-It-Anymore, scroll to the bottom of the article to see Goodman's plug for his new book about how great Bama is.

Not clicking and dont even care. These clowns dont even know if Harsin is Vaxxed or not. Him not telling them is breaking them down.

Its not their right to even know if he is vaxxed or not. Thats his personal right

The entire thing is stupid.
