No need to overreact to this game. Awful sandwich game missing a key piece of our defense. This was a huge game for them on senior night with us down key pieces. Like others have said, if we beat Bama at home on our senior night (which is our entire team) this will be a blip on the season and we may hold onto #1 ranking to end the season. Duke may even lose to a hot UNC team that desperately needs a win to clinch a tournament bid.

With that being said, I was still very impressed with our offensive performance. We out shot them in every way from the field and free throw line. Entire difference of the game was their offensive boards which were stupid. We need Broome to get his mojo back for sure, but nobody else in the nation can do what they did on the boards tonight. Let’s reset and go on a 10 game win streak now.

I’m convinced that Pettiford’s offensive sets are completely different than Denver’s.

No ball movement, no passing, just iso. Hell it’s under 15 seconds on the shot clock before we even get into offense with Pettiford.

Buzz Williams had a lot to do with that

I agree with this, but this will be crucial in the tournament. This is what Harper was so good at in our final four run. Run down the clock, create something or get to the line. This is how you close out games in the tournament with a lead. Also, A&M’s defense is not like anything else we will face. Buzz knows Bruce all too well and we still shot 50% from the field and 40% from 3.

Literally just locked up the title.

Thank God for UTenn..

Imagine if Bama had beaten UTenn & UF tomorrow.. the Title would have came down to the last game.

Holloway would have air-balled the game winner

Our guys just looked lazy tonight with minimal effort

Seems like it’s all ball screen action with Pettiford. Part of that is because he’s so lethal but I wish we could get into our normal stuff

Sorta agree here. He’s a big shot maker but he rarely drives. Maybe once or so a game. The offense is completely stale when he’s on the court. The reason why it worked extended time Saturday is because UK’s guards are really slow. Like weirdly slow.

I feel confident if UT doesn’t beat bama on Saturday that we would have seen a different team tonight.

Multitude of reasons we lost tonight but most of them can likely be traced to them relaxing after clinching the title. I can live with that. Play like hell Saturday though.

We lost because Bruce refuses to sit Broome so that he can get healthy.

I wonder if he knows the full offense? Looks like the late clock Wendell Green stuff to me without a rim running big like Kessler to just toss it up to

Everyone has played the same number of games. We play a larger rotation than most teams.

You have a point, but I don't think you can entirely dismiss this team being tired, maybe mentally moreso than physically. Broome has the weight of the POTY race on him, the team with the #1 target on their backs getting everyone's best shot, winning the conference Saturday, then playing a Tuesday game on the road against a more desperate team that is known for being physical. That's all real.

Petty has improved a lot at the point this year. Trap game slowed our offense down and gave us fits. It is what it is

Still Champs bitch!

He was driving the best I’ve seen all season the past few games leading up to A&M. He had been shooting poorly from 3 l, but made a huge impact driving and dishing against Ole Miss and Kentucky. We did not see that tonight though. Probably was partially because he was shooting lights out from 3. But I agree, when he slows it down and drives it brings a dynamic that nobody else does this team. We didn’t see that tonight, but that’s what we need going forward, mixed in with a few 3’s to boot.

They definitely are. Pettiford plays best when the ball is in his hands. It’s the reason he shoots the ball so much and also the reason most of the time he’s played with the hustle guys. The offense is much broader with Denver because Denver is better without the ball.

I still love Pett as our end of the game guy. It might seem like he doesn’t drive much but that’s where he’s been money to close out games. The bama game was a prime example.

I think Pettiford getting his first start against a Buzz team was probably a nightmare scenario for Bruce. He would probably pick any other team.

ETA: That's a top ten defense in the country ran by a coach that gives Bruce fits.

ETAA: That A&M team is the antithesis of the Kentucky team we just played and beat. It was a bad setup regardless the circumstances surrounding the game.

I’m not laying any blame at Pettiford’s feet to be clear. I actually think it’s a great mix to have a complete change up for a backup PG.

We lost because we didn’t play with hustle and effort. We got dominated on the glass. 41-25. And we turned it over a lot

That we can agree on.

The effort reminded me of the Florida game and the first half of the Iowa State game.
