Grimes….yes
Freeze….NO.
I have a hard time believing after passing on Kiffin over concerns about his baggage they would seriously be considering Hugh Freeze.

Correct. This makes no sense

Grimes was a name being tossed around for awhile

Yes, great idea…let’s hire a failed coach who ran a middle of the pack program who also got said program put on probation. Sounds legit.

Jay G saying we are still planning on hiring Utah St AD after Harsin is fired. Big money guys are mostly united behind Freeze or Grimes. Big money guys also want Ethridge and T Robinson on new defensive staff as "cornerstones"
Hugh Freeze, off the field concerns not considered, has proven he can (1) recruit (2) beat Alabama (3) develop a college QB (4) is familiar with the SEC (5) proven to be a winner.
Winning solves everything. Winning makes people forget the off the field stuff.

Does it really matter if he was put on probation anymore? I mean everything is legal to pay players he won’t have to try and hide it:

failed coach
And lets all be honest, Ole Miss was targeted for punishment for daring to rise above their level. They beat bama what, two years in a row? Had another game stolen by refs as well iirc. Paid for some recruits and got slammed by the NCAA.
I want a coach that wins. Hugh Wins

It will take longer to get over having a coach that looks like a gofer than his off-the-field escapades.

Checks out with what Steven Godfrey said as well, basically that they want to put as much distance between the Harsin firing and the AD hiring as they can so they aren't directly linked.
He also alluded to the AD hire (in terms of program importance) being a bigger deal than the HC hire, I belive.

Meh. Grimes, sure. Why not. Has appeared to be a damn good OC, would make OL a priority from day 1. But his offense has not been outstanding this year so far (at least against P5 level opponents).
I'm done talking about Freeze. I've made my thoughts on him clear. I feel that's a short-sighted move IMO.

I can understand this. Not saying I agree with it, but I understand it. I'm assuming they'd go after T-Rob as DC? IMO, it'd make more sense to possibly try and bring T-Will in as DC. UCF's D has not been their problem this year. Most points they've given up in a game so far is 20 to Louisville. And you can't argue that he wouldn't be loved by the players here.

I enjoyed Etheridge as a player, but our secondary isn't giving me the best feel tbh. How many interceptions have they received this or last year?
I don't want a mediocre Freeze, Jeff Grimes on the other hand sounds like an excellent choice, I have a friend that played under him and loved him during the 2010-13 run. He didn't get a lot of playing time afaik though.

9 Total Ints as a team last year. This year so far: 1 Int by Derrick Hall.

in the end, i think Grimes would probably be a decent hire. it just makes me sad that the "big money" guys aren't at least trying to pony up for a bigger name than him. even if we end up with him but at least TRY for a bigger name/more established guy. and even more sad if they're also considering freeze. it's just sad to think this is what they're going to settle for is all, and the fact that they're united behind these names. like this is not even making me angry, just flat out sad about being an auburn football fan.
also, them meddling with the next coach's staff (referencing the comments about wanting Etheridge and Twill) before he even gets here is a TERRIBLE way to entice any sort of new hire.
for being successful businessmen, our boosters sure are stupid. good grief.
someone talk me off the ledge.

alabama hires a national championship level coach, georgia hires a national championship level coordinator, and we hire the potato gang followed by either a sanctioned, prostitute hiring, .600 coach or an unproven coordinator.
this is sad dude

This needs a little context. We have a lot of big money guys and they rarely agree on anything. I don't doubt that some are pushing those 2 but others are pushing others as well. The Pres and the AD are the only ones that can make any decisions. We don't have an AD and the Pres isn't giving out interviews so anything at this point is purely speculation based on limited evidence/conversations.

(1) recruit- FALSE. Paid for a top five class and it won nothing.
(2) beat Alabama- WTF? should have kept Gus, if that was a hiring criteria.
(3) develop a college QB- Who? Malik basically said he phoned it in at Auburn and had to study hard at Liberty.
(5) proven to be a winner- Yes, proven that 8 games is his ceiling without cheating, and then that will still get you zero hardware. Like he did in the SEC West.
We are F-ing idiots if we spent all this $ for Grimes or Freeze.
We will wither away in the arms race with either of these two.
