Today he was basically begging the students and fans to show up for their top 10 match up this weekend.

If true, what are the odds that the PTB learned from the last fiasco and already have the replacement lined up? Is that even possible with no AD yet? Seems like a long shot.

So we know the guy is out for sure yet won't go ahead and make the change.

I actually believe that. It sounds exactly like what Auburn will do.

So if the unthinkable happens(it won't) and he beats UGA or Bama then he makes a case to keep his job

Coach O knew he was fired the Thursday or Friday before he played and beat Florida last year. And then they announced it on Sunday.

I think a lot of coaches wouldn't dare retweet a story connecting them to another job, especially at a bigger school where there isn't a vacancy yet

I think Kiff thought it was a perfect subtle brag to show he's in the public mix for the Auburn job and could do it under the cover of the article's theme (Ole Miss is good enough on its own) so that he didn't come off like an ahole

It makes even more sense considering his agent:

However, I think this is a ploy for another extension/raise - Kiff thinks he's worth more than the $7 million he's earning this year, and he's probably going to get it if he finishes with 10 or more wins again this year.

McCarron still found ways to take a dig at Auburn. He can go piss up a rope.

I get irrationally angry when I keep seeing Freeze mentioned here or twitter.

If we burned $40,000,000 to fire Gus and Harsin to hire bucktooth Gus wannabe... I will be the guy yelling at the airport.

What a POS. Didn't even finish listening and I'd love to know his "inside sources" at AU - his entire speech was saying AU is a "lower tier" SEC team thinking it's "upper tier" wtf is he talking about. Objectively if you look at the last 20 years or so it goes like this.

AL
LSU, AU, FL, GA
Everyone Else

2004 Undefeated
2010 National Title
2013 Played for Title
2017 Won Division after beating 2 number 1s and lost rematch to GA in SEC championship

Aranda (probably longshot) - If I were running the program I'd already have reached out

Why? He’s at a program that isn’t going to sustain success, and he’s in a conference that is on its last leg.

Baylor has been pretty steady since Briles left, especially considering the mess he left

I’ve pretty much stayed out of the name a coach game, but it’s been amusing just the same.

Not trying to pick a fight but I remember AU being more talented and think the numbers show that. To look at the depth they really had you need to go back to 2010 or so to look at what he inherited + brought in. I think sometimes people forget how good our recruiting was during that era. From 2010-2016 Auburn was top 10 all years but 1. OM only broke the top 10 twice, and their average range was 15-25.

Under Freeze OM recruiting took a HUGE uptick (maybe because paying players), but they still never really recruited on the same level that Auburn did.

Recruiting comparison 247sports composite:
2010 - Auburn 6 OM 24
2011 - Auburn 5 OM 20
2012 - Auburn 11 OM 48
2013 - Auburn 8 OM 10
2014 - Auburn 6 OM 15
2015 - Auburn 8 OM 17
2016 - Auburn 9 OM 5

Auburn was still bringing in top classes fairly recently.

2017 #9
2018 #12
2019 #11
2020 #7

Gus' downfall was, he didn't sign OL, his questionable play calling, and his simplistic offense that was fairly easy for decent teams to defend against.

Goes back to my earlier point about having talent, but sub par coaching.

This is why so many people seem to be on board with hiring a Deion type recruiter as HC, who will then trust his coordinators to do the job. At this level, it seems to work best when you have a CEO-HC.
What makes you so sure that this will be how it is? The 1 season and 4 games he's coached at the collegiate level, with his son at QB?

He came within a hair of beating Alabama last year, with Finley at QB. Unfortunately, our defense has regressed to the point where Alabama and UGA can probably name the score this year. Swiss cheese has less holes.

He's smart. He'll buy his time. Other jobs will open up and not have the reputation our board and boosters have subjected us to. Napier is a good example.
