Heber City is a great location but Utah State is in Logan which is the Cache Valley. Very beautiful there but the winters are pretty harsh. I could live there though half of the year. It truly is an incredible valley.

You are correct.

We drove through there on the way from SLC to Jackson Hole. I wish we had time to spend there. Seemed like a great little town. Like what Auburn was before they started building shite everywhere.

Tell me again, what has Sanders accomplished as a college coach?

Here, I'll help you out: 1. Signed a few good players 2. The End.

That’s a disingenuous lie. Try again.

That dude is something like 69 years old. Nobody on the board new who he was, until they looked him up.

I really like how some are throwing around the idea of a CEO-type coach that can hire the best coaches and consistently recruit the best players.........based on his 18 months coaching in the FCS

He also has former Minnesota Vikings HC Mike Zimmer on his staff as an Analyst. At Jackson State.

I mean, it sounds like you're just going to dig in your heels regardless of what anyone says. Nobody said that it's not an obvious risk or that he's not an unknown. However, despite the fact that he has little to no coaching experience (as you mentioned), his staff at FCS Jackson State is better than a lot of FBS football staffs. At FCS Jackson State he is recruiting on par or better than a lot of FBS football programs.

Those are two things that are empirically true. He is one of the most prominent names in football and has a lot of coaching contacts. The fact that he has been able to assemble the staff he has at an FCS school is highly impressive...especially given that he barely has any coaching experience. What would he be able to do at SEC school with infrastructure/budget?

His team is also blowing the competition away. Through four games they've scored 190 points and conceded just 37. This isn't a smoke-and-mirrors fluke show; they have one of the best defenses in FCS and a ~Top 10 offense. The last three guys before him at Jackson State all had losing records.

I get the excitement around Deion. But he's still not my choice.

I'd go Aranda & Kiffin, all out. If they tell me no, then I'd maybe start considering the back up plan.

Only one coach could start moving in as soon as Harsin moves out. He is hard to like so you would have to hold your nose. His name is Urban Meyer, and he has won at every college he has been to. He may be the only one who can pull us out of the hole we have dig

Most of us Deion defenders don’t have Deion first choice. If a tier one says yes then most are happy.

Tier 1 Aranda, Kiffin, Matt Rhule

Tier 2 Deion, Dan Quinn

Tier 3: Freeze, Urban Meyer, Jason Garrett

Tier 4: BOB, Muschamp, Steele, Rhett Lashlee

Tier 5: Bill fricking Clark

Both solid choices.

I'm also high on Lebby and Kane Wommack at USA, but the more and more I think/look at Deion, I get more and more excited at the potential than anyone else listed.

Kinda reminds me like drafting a HS kid to the NBA. Maybe he'll be Kwame Brown. Or maybe he'll be a KG/LeBron type.

Not a terrible ranking, but I'd definitely move Urb up to Tier 1.

Also drop Quinn and add Clawson/Doeren to tier 2. And move Freezus to Tier 5 with BFC.

Yeah, definitely gotta put a guy that has won multiple NCs at different schools in tier 1. I don’t like stinky pinky, but that mofo can coach.

Tier 2 is the highest he can go on my list. Nobody that makes me want to hold my nose is tier one and Urb fits that description:

He’s got too much baggage
He’s a dick to his own players
The baller system is fricked up.

Let's circle back to Prime. He could easily fail. However I don't understand to "he hasn't coached" argument. Dabo had zero coaching experience before Clemson. Prime was a professional athlete in two sports. He knows how to prep for a game. Real criticism of him is would he be able to rub elbows with our rich boosters. You never really know. Tom Herman was trained by Urban and he was a disaster. People were saying he was making sex jokes during his booster speeches.

I don't deny Meyer can coach, but he's a major douche. Aranda is not a douche, is soft spoken and a good dude. I would go with Aranda even over Meyer.

No rival coaches would be snickering if AU hired Aranda, he is universally respected in the coaching profession.

Someone mentioned Kane Wommack from USA:

My mind harkened back to a Jhead post in August:

quote:

Before I get this thread started, this is not a comment about Harsin and Auburn. Admittedly I’m an admirer of college coaches and take a particular interest in finding the next coach who’s likely to ascend to being a successful P5 Head Coach in due time. In that vein I’ve been a fan of his for a while, but watching his early season success this year and the way other coaches speak of him has convinced me that Kane Wommack of South Alabama is building the reputation of a guy who understands today’s game and is going to be a successful P5 guy sooner rather than later. Don’t be surprised if USA knocks off UCLA in LA this weekend, and should that happen watch him start to get buzz like Billy Napier a few years back.

That was me.

I've been high on him ever since he got hired at USA. Dude just seems to be a very sound mind from a coaching family.

He also could end up being another Derek Dooley. But like with any hire, that's the risk.
