The truth is that once that investigation was made public and all the other stuff, Harsin was a dead man walking before the season even started.
But we could have gotten Freeze before the season even started (if we end up with Freeze anyway).
My personal (non-sourced) opinion is we had all our eggs in the Lane basket and had a lazy plan B. We will never hear everything, but if Cohen's specifications were accurate, we were looking at a pretty small pool.
Now we just wait to see how bent over we get with a contract for a guy no one else is jumping to get.
