Freeze with solid NIL backing and a killer staff has SEC title potential imo.

Yep - Freeze + NIL would be scary at Auburn. It seems like there's going to be too much pearl clutching to get that across the finish line though... Unless there's a darkhorse like Dabo we're looking at whiffing on every top tier available coach during this search, which is insane if you think about it because there were several good ones who we should have been all over (Urban similar to Freeze).

(1) Kiffin - OM
(2) Rhule - Nebraska
(3) Fickell - Wisconsin

We have people seriously saying to pull the interim tag from Caddy now or to hire ex AU assistants. Guys whose next step should be a HC role at a small P5 or a top tier FCS school. The probability of the search being a flop is increasing as this drags on.

He's never called a play. Only had 2-3 guys he coaches atva time. The AU job is too big for someone with his experience

They’re supporting their guy. That means nothing. If Johnson was hired their tune would change. I know for a fact Ashford’s would.

Prime has the highest upside if you're looking for high risk high upside.

This would be a google/settle hire.

The usual NFL path is something like
College HC > NFL Flop HC > Back to College **Grab them here**

Johnson's highest tier in college is being the offensive coordinator during Dan Mullen's flop at Florida. Granted, they were better while he was there, but he's never run a college program.

It's not money, fans or facilities. AU can equal anyone in the SEC (except aTm) in those departments.

Coaches are humans and believe all the media hype around JABA. They believe Rane sits in his thrown and operates the program like Emperor Palpatine. I know this because I've seen various magazines interview (anonymously) other coaches about it. (I can't find those sources right now).

True, kids do the playing. And they can hit the portal at any moment…

Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had guys hit the portal

Portal works both ways

Don’t think guys are going to be lining up in the portal for an NFL position coach that nobody has heard of.

I don't mean this as a slight to any of our players and appreciate the effort they put in but there aren't a lot of SEC caliber players on our roster we need to worry about placating so they don't hit the portal.

No doubt about it.

Johnson’s upside is extremely high though. Just seeing what he is doing with Hurts now (current NFL MVP frontrunner,) what he did with Trask, what he did with Dak, we could have a real star in him. I feel like QBs would want to line up to play for him. He is getting a LOT of praise right now for being a QB guru.

He can call offense. He did call plays. He was the youngest OC in FBS history at 23. He called his own offense in 2020. He has learned from Mullen and Mullen isn’t a bad offensive mind.

Yeah that’s my point. I’m not really looking to get into a Brian Johnson debate. Don’t care. But losing guys from this roster has to be one of the lower concerns right now

I'm more likely to get the call than Muschamp
