I am pretty sure the Athletic program at AU is a multimillion dollar enterprise. Cohen is the CEO, who conducts searching hires for damn near 30 days with only a Plan A? Cohen has a shitload of people to conduct vetting and I think we hired an analytic search firm, WTF are we paying them for all we got was Kiffins? This reeks of amateur hour. We should have 3 candidates lined up willing to accept if offered and a hard deadline of Dec 1.

We’ve had since Halloween to figure this out. That’s plenty of time. If we had a guy lined up we would be announcing today like these other schools. If we do not announce by EOD it’s clear Cohen is going to struggle his entire tenure here. This isn’t Moo State buddy. Welcome to the big leagues.

Just to play devil's advocate on "Roberts and Cohen won't hire Freeze"

- No need to leak Freeze yesterday. This was a common sense
2nd name for all the media

- Cohen and Roberts probably don't want Freeze, but it seems a portion of the power brokers really, really want Freeze, and have for a long time. Would Cohen and Roberts directly contradict this, and introduce immediate dislike. I don't believe they have enough incentive to do so.

- I do believe a large portion of the protest/outrage/reaction would be a zero by Monday mid day or Tuesday. There will always be a 25% fringe - most Auburn folks will rightfully view this 25% fringe as weird and not desirable.

- meanwhile, they can put in a last ditch effort for Kiffin

I think you are making too many assumptions

It’s possible they leaked it as a smokescreen or to show the PTB that people dislike Freeze, since they don’t want him either. I don’t know. I’m having a hard time reconciling we had all this time to search along with vetting committees to only have one or two guys lined up. I want to give Cohen the benefit of the doubt but I’m starting to lose faith with every passing day. I think others are as well.

Personally I think Sexton leaked Freeze’s name but that is just me.
And I’m not sure Auburn has actually been “talking to Freeze” like the reports have said.
Some people with some pretty good intel have said that Freeze was a no go from the start with Cohen and Roberts and much of the BOT.
