Some clarification here. I think we’d have to do that kind of contract because somebody else will. I don’t think Ole Miss will. But some program will do it if Auburn doesn’t and I’m not convinced Auburn will
If Roberts's won't sign-off and pay a P5 head coach like Freeze or Kiffin, we'll go the assistant route. Grimes checks all the boxes you can check as an assistant. With the exception of maybe 3-5 college programs most others go with an assistant.

I wonder how much bama will pay him in 2-4 years if we don't hire him.

The fact that several people on here think Lane wouldn’t come makes me think more so that we could get him lol. It’s never anybody we have mentioned tho, or anyone we really think. So bet on the long odds guys.

Hindsight is 20/20 in my case, but TT’s wanted Kiffin bad two years ago and we should have went that route then. TT’s should have been a billionaire board member so someone would have listened.

Yeah I’m pumping the brakes on Aranda. He seems like a great guy and still solid coach, but not an encouraging start to the season. I’d be happy with him over Harsin but that’s not saying much.

I think Aranda goes to Nebraska. I could see Wisconson making their interim coach permanent, then Rhule taking a year off, collect money for nothing from Carolina. Baylor promotes Grimes. Suddenly we're down to Freeze, Kiffin, and Deion.

What if we hired the UConn AD, is he bringing Jim Mora? shite

Aranda is a very good coach. Kiffin is a very good coach.

UK scored the game winning touchdown on the last UK drive against Ole Miss but had a false start on the play. Next play turnover. UK turned the ball over their last 3 possessions on the Ole Miss side of the field outside of UK, Ole Miss has played absolutely no one. That’s not a knock on Lane but perspective is needed in this search. One season, one game shouldn’t affect what we are looking for.

A coach that has a strong vision for AU
Can employ a very competent staff
Can recruit at a high level
Willing to fit into Auburn culture not have Auburn meet his culture

Those are my prerequisites if I’m doing the hiring. Most of those are attainable for almost all above average coaches if at AU. Proven over and over

Gus doesn't fit his narrative.

If you're a betting man, who do you bet we hire? Assuming Harsin actually gets fired

Well put Corch

I think the thing that worries me is that it’s hard to judge those criteria as bystanders like we are. Like you said, pretty much any of the top 3-4 candidates *could* check off all those boxes, which should be encouraging, but is just making me nervous that the people hiring will miss the mark again.

Grimes because of the money required to get Lane. Yes our boosters are willing to pay big money I think Prime and Lane are to big of wild cards for the PTB. I think it would take 7-8million to get Prime and 10 to get Lane plus a long term deal. Grimes I think we could get for 4million and have 4-5million to invest in an elite staff as well. Freeze I'm not sure will get the clearance to be hired by the SEC or our own compliance.

We have plenty of money but there are many thing ADAG shutdown and reduced budgets. Bruce wants his basketball practice facility, he wants NIL across all sports increased. Butch wants expansion and normal upgrades plus NIL.

But it is also of my opinion that the school makes the coach 99 percent of the time not the other way around. There are exceptions to the rule - Dabo at Clemson but look what all had to happen for them to rise, the fall of Tennessee, VT, Miami, FSU all at the same time. Bruce at Auburn but getting 2-3 players every couple years in basketball is much easier. And that general statement of the school makes the coach is in football but wanted to throw Bruce in there just to give him props.

As has been discussed the past couple of years. College football is at a crossroads. I called it when it became a real money game. 20 schools will go all in. 20 will go as much as they can. The rest will be left behind. I think Auburn is one that will go all in. That's why I think the next coach regardless of pedigree is either a 10 year guy of success or just a place holder until college football gets figured out.

I'd hope Prime isn't that high. Rather than Kiffin for $10, I'd take Freeze for $4 and put the other $6mm/year into NIL.

I hope to hell Grimes gets promoted by Baylor, I don't think he could get it done. If we are going to go all in, do it. Grimes isn't going all in. Grimes is saving money for the buyout later, we went cheap last time and got what we paid for.

If Grimes gets promoted, and Freeze isn't hirable, it's Deion or Lane. Give Lane 6 years at 60 million and see what he says.

We have been penny wise and dollar dumb with Harsin, and it's going to cost us $15+ million 2 years after firing Gus. It has to stop
