Come on Tempered...you know success or lack thereof in the NFL does not necessarily translate to college success or lack thereof.

It's not much better:
2013 2–10
2014 Temple 6–6
2015 Temple 10–4
2016 Temple 10–3
You think Auburn would take the first 2 seasons of Matt Rhule. Nope.

We're basically getting the inverse with the first two seasons of Bryan Harsin.

Definition of insanity with Matt Rhule

I know you're not on the PrimeTime party train, and expressed the same concerns about Freezus that I have, so I think we aren't far apart when it comes to the next AU HC.
I feel like Rhule would be probably the best, most logical candidate at this time, leaving out pipe dreams like Kiffin or Aranda or Matt Campbell or Luke Fickell.
From our realistic choices, whom do you think we should hire?

quote:That being extremely fair to Kiffin. Other coordinators have been hired by other schools, while preparing for a meaningful game. Kiffin was the only one that I can remember, that quit to go to the new job. Saban recognized that he was mailing it in, and wasn't focused on preparing. He was going to FAU! One more week of giving his OC job his all, wasn't going to change a damn thing at FAU. Did you forget how he trolled Saban and Alabama after that, on Twitter? We all laughed, but at the end of the day, he shite on the guy who threw him a lifeline when his career was in the toilet.
This isn't exactly being fair. He had already been hired as the HC at FAU at this point in time, and coached in the first Playoff game. Then Saban told him to get gone because he wasn't fully focused on the game with his new HC duties, so Sark, who was going to replace him as OC, got early promoted for the game.

That's normally how a rebuilding job works, guy. You lose games and then continually start winning more in successive seasons. Matt Rhule won 10+ games in back to back seasons at Temple. Do you know when the last time was that they had won 10 games in football? 1979. From the 1990's to the mid 2000's that program was winning 1 to 4 games a season. That's not an exaggeration; 4 wins was their max over a 15 year stretch.
Auburn fans are literal football-idiots. We're knocking a guy now who took over two rebuilds at NON-ELITE football schools and managed to have both of them at 10+ wins within the 3rd year. Oh, but his overall record looks bad because they won 2-games in year #1! Oh no!
What is your expectation, that we're going to hire someone who is going to start at 10-wins in year #1 and just go up from there?

Why is he being fired in the NFL? We just jump for the first guy we see let go, I mean sure I like him otherwise, but he will be like Harsin where he doesn't know how to recruit the SEC especially against our neighbor up north.

So we just say this about anyone that hasn’t spent a year or two in the SEC now?

I'm not saying it's a terrible hire, I just don't think it's an out of the park homerun. He still hasn't really won championships at any level other than Temple.

who would be that in your opinion? not asking because i think Lane would be. i'm just curious hearing who different people would classify as a "home run hire"

Which coach would you consider a home run?
