Steven seems fine to me as an X's and O's guy,
I am beginning to question this. I watched OK cut us to pieces on defense. In the first half they constantly had their scorers driving to the goal (1 vs 1) against a back side defender, taking advantage of our big out top pressure and top of key switching by our guards. This worked all 1st half leading to either scores or fouls at the rim or kick outs for good 3 looks. In the 2nd half, they were able to just enter the ball in the middle of the lane and kick back out to a shooter when the defense collapsed (similar to my 6th grade girls offense). It was painful watching OK methodically take apart our defense like that. 100% coaching. There is no mystery why players have career nights against us. We are easy to scheme.
It's easy to coach defense when you have great ball pressure and rim protection. We are seeing what happens when we don't have those things. So, I am left to wonder about Pearl. He doesn't coach offense, has not been able to make the pieces of this team fit together, and they now appear to be shutting down on him.

When only 1 player on your team is capable of guarding the player in front of them, you are extremely easy to scheme and no defensive scheme can hide it.
In past years it's not like every player out there was an elite defender. Last year we had an elite defense with really only 3 players I would have considered to above average defensively.. but this bunch is exceptionally bad and gives poor effort.

I agree with your general point, but we had more than 3 last year. Denver, Broome, Cardwell, CBM, Kelly, Chaney, and Moore were all above average defensively.
This year we don't have a single player over .6 in defensive win shares, and nobody over 3 in defensive box plus/minus, which is pathetic. Only time we had that under Bruce was the first couple years and 20-21.

Denver, Broome, and Cardwell were, but I always found CBM and Kelly to be pretty average individual defenders. They were good within the scheme though.

This is probably fair in terms of Kelly, he only really graded above average here at Auburn. I think you are selling CBM a bit short though, he wasn't elite but he was a solid defender, and his defensive grades reflect that at multiple stops.

Even Joe Lunardi is dunking on Bruce's take on Miami of Ohio.
Bruce has people feeling sorry for Auburn.
Where do we go from here? Ask Bruce if he wants back in?

Bruce is just being an inflammatory first year talking head.
But also, Bruce is right.

That's depressing but there are several factors at play here, not the least of which is a 9PM CT weeknight tip. Gotta be the latest home tip we've had.
