Is the sticking point here really about Steven being his son?

Nepotism worked in 1910 maybe.

If that is true, this was bungled and there is no way around that fact. They had everything they needed to do this correctly and fricked it up. No excuse for that.

If it was, in fact, leaked before the players were told, I want to know how the damn leaker is.

How is this even possible

No clue. I think Thamel may have been the first to report it and reminder that the only thing he hates more than Auburn is Bruce.

It goes both ways though. Yes, you could argue that Steven being the assistant HC all this time was because he was his son, but I'd say he has more than done a good job there, whether people actually realize it or not.

Flipside though, if the situation unfolded exactly like it has and Steven wasn't his son, people would say it makes sense to pass it off to his protege. It is an argument of convenience to focus on him being his son. He has done a very good job as the #2 for a long time now.

I remember the Meyer's at DePaul and didn't the Harrick's try this at UGA but a nepotism clause prevented it?

Bingo. Now we get to find out if Steven actually was a great as Bruce made him out to be or if it’s a legit nepo situation like some think it is.

Hoke should explain it. The leaker should be held accountable.

Besides Bruce retiring right before practice starts, is anyone really upset that Steven is the guy?

Pete Thamel broke it, but if anyone involved in the Auburn AD told Thamel, they need to be sent packing immediately.

I'm not. I've assumed he'd be the next coach for years now. He has taken on more an more the past few years anyways. May not work out, who knows, but I think he is a good coach.

I didnt want to hire him. Would've liked ole Bucky. Bucky seems exceptional as a person as a person and as a coach.

He was. Porbably would have worked out better for us if his name was Tony Calipari

We don't even know if these are the players Steven would have recruited if he was head coach at the time. For all we know we was thinking he was recruiting for his Bruce's system for another year.

Have a kid at Samford and loved watching Bucky ball. Hate I have to tune in to A&M now to see it.

It sounds like he didn’t know what Bruce would do either.

Regarding the leak, all he said it was who knows how this stuff gets out early. If it was that tight to the vest there should be a very short list of people that know.

Also.. it feels like the end of the Bruce Pearl era should have had a better end off than a random Monday retirement in September. What a deflating end.
