Uh, it better not. 5* maybe, but he better not have a problem getting 4* players regularly.

It sucks that Malzahn's incompetence ended up having that effect on them.

I don't blame Harsin at all. Gus is just the gift that will keep on giving for a season.

Why refer to the Auburn family if he’s looking for a divorce?

I get a player going pro, but the TP??

I’m missing something.

I'm kinda shocked that DJ ended up at FSU and Newkirk to Florida. Are either of those two guys going to even get much playing time? These aren't star players - they're average dudes coming from an average-to-bad team, going to schools that have guys already at their positions.

Maybe they just want to go back home and chose accordingly, but I'm struggling to see the purpose of these transfers if they actually intend on playing and trying to further their career. I assumed both guys would be transferring down to schools where they'd actually have the opportunity to stand out.

DJ has a good shot at FSU I think. Their leading rusher was their QB with only 559 yards in 9 games, and they're in a major rebuild after everything that's happened the last few years.

Newkirk and BK, only thing I can think of is they just don't feel like they're going to fit into Mason's scheme.

Agree. I think Newkirk is an average 3-technique player. I know Garner used to hype him as an NFL guy but he was never that productive. Maybe he was out of shape, IDK. I think he could have been a really good 0-technique in a 3-4 but oh well.

I'm also beginning to think DJ is playing the wrong position and should be a LB or Safety. Someone else mentioned that so I'm certainly not taking credit for the thought. He just seems to lack instincts when carrying the ball.

Their QB may have been their leading rusher; but they have two backs - a sophomore and a freshman - who both played that were 4-star recruits. The one kid (Toafili) averaged almost 10 yards a carry on 37 attempts. DJ Williams has done nothing at Auburn to suggest that he's a "walk-in-and-start" type of back. Maybe he thinks of himself as that, but even with FSU "rebuilding" they have decent to good recruits at his position because they're FSU and RB's aren't hard to find.

I think it's just guys who don't want to play in a transition, has nothing to do with defensive scheme. If anything Newkirk would absolutely fit as a NT type when Mason chooses to run 3-man fronts. This is where the transfers don't seem to make any sense: he's one of the only guys on the roster at DT who actually has the size/strength to fill that role which means that his likelihood of playing is high. But he's going to go to Florida which likely already has guys better than him who have established themselves in that defense? It seems to me that a guy like Newkirk would have a MUCH easier time getting playing time at Auburn then he will at Florida.

That makes more sense. Saw he tagged him in his Twitter post and there was no mention of Kevin Steele.

He tagged their DC Derrick Ansley also.

He has an excellent eye for talent, he recruited me to D3 Huntingdon College 13 years ago. Lol.

I understand a coaching change is a big deal, but he still bailed on his teammates of 3 years.

Yeah, I’m not knocking him (congrats to his coach btw), just figured he’d suck it up for a year at AU and go for the draft.
