This will be a challenging game with the travel and start time. Spavital is a legit OC and can generate yards and scores. Not sure about their D, but I don't think it's top level good. Mid to lower tier. Cal RB is an elite runner and had 900 yds 8 TD's his freshmen year on a 4-8 team. He had one big game last year (274 Yards vs Arizona), but had more sub par games as well. Only two games over 100.

They have a veteran line though, but that is all relative because are they a good veteran line, and someone said their center is out for this game and I believe the backup is a freshman.

They are 31-36 under the current coach, but first year with Spavital.

We have the team to beat them and should, but it will come down to how we respond to the start time of the game, and our run D comes to play and adjustments. They may have their back-up QB as well, not sure if their starter will be available, but he did practice yesterday.

Jackson is a duel threat transfer from TCU should he play. He has explosive speed and a strong arm, but not very much playing time as QB in college so I do not know how accurate. He was 3/4 33 Yds and a TD when he left the game.

It's a tough one to call because we really do not know how good either team really is. Auburn has the more talented roster, but Cal can pull off some upsets, especially at home and time slot scares me.

We have to start fast and strong and not let them gain any momentum in the run game.

Have you heard any of the Freeze talks since the UMass game?

I think he substituted "15 times" for the word hello, as in our alignment was wrong 15 times before we snapped the ball, 15 times. Heck Ive only seen two interviews and must have heard it 15 times, lol.

Seriously, Thorne makes one bad read and he is throwing his headset during the game. 15 times aligned wrong? He said the coach's meeting on Sunday was not very pleasant. I hope not.

And for those that say "oh we shut them down after that first drive". We did it by blitzing DBs, nickels, safeties. You have to rely on that and a decent QB is gonna burn your arse early and often.

Sure bud. Lets ignore that Austin Keys was the LB that blew the coverages on the long runs. He is not going to be seeing the field anytime soon. And to think that the same mistakes will carry over from week 1 to week 2 is your nega showing. Teams tend to improve the most from week 1 to week 2. I expect Auburn to improve as well.

Chex ya reading me wrong, mid game all you can do is bring pressure any way you can to stop the hemorrhaging. The players themselves, the ones responsible, did not fix it.

I do think the arse chewings will get the coaches....and players better aligned. Roll with Nixon and Asante.

We are paper thin in a position we thought we fixed in the portal.

yeah they did. Players make plays. ONce we benched Keys we stopped their running attack.

And yes we used safeties to blitz, but that is what Roberts is known for. It wasnt some act of desperation bc our LBs were out of position.

We’ve just forgotten what it’s like to have an attacking defense. Give it time for us to adjust. We’ve been used to the bend but don’t break cuck defenses for so long now. It’s strange to see a DC actually put pressure on the opposing team and cause turnovers and negative plays.

Sacks and turnovers are what Hugh's defense was known for at Liberty. Not necessarily total PPG or yards per game. What's interesting is that a lot of teams are going that route. More reasonable to expect clutch sacks or turnovers in a shootout that can create a 14 point swing than to expect having Georgia's defense. There is an arithmetic to Freeze's philosophy that adds up.

Yea, idea is that if you can get a quick swing, your offense will be able to maintain your lead and you can start limiting what your defense has to worry about as the offense will have to start getting more one dimensional.

Getting turnovers are even more important with the running clock now. It creates even fewer possessions for the other team.
