I'm glad to see no one else went with this idea. Please don't steal Mason. I'm asking nicely.
That's what divided loyalies will get ya

Seriously, Mason seems to have done a 180 at Vandy - this time two seasons ago he was thought to be completely over his head and was a consensus pick to be the next ex-SEC HC. Now it appears the Dores are poised to make a run at the SECE. Of course that may be the result of the rest of that division being in such disarray.

Enjoy him while you can - I doubt AU will come calling, but someone else is going to make him an offer he may not be able to refuse.

Derek Mason leading a defense with the talent Auburn has would be scary. The success would come down to if he made a good OC hire. It has to be someone that can operate with a lot of autonomy. Ludwig (Vandy's OC) has talked about how he basically has free reign as long as things are working.

Mason has definitely turned things around a lot from losing 31-7 to Temple in game 1.

I am down for Fleck or Durkin. Make it happen, JJ (fat chance).

One thing to maybe keep in mind... with the new early signing period, we could end up getting screwed in recruiting if we make a change.

Outside of the fact that he's scared to death of him?

And if you can't win at Florida, you sure as heck aren't gonna at South Carolina

Come on Sandman he has won't anything there yet either so let's not go down that road. Carolina hired Muschamp because they're a perennial bottom feeder and have a fan base whose expectations are 1 SECCG appearance per decade

Is this not the situation we are currently in with Malzahn? I can't see our defense getting any better than it is now and while Mason may bring stability to that side of the ball we'll still be in the same position we find ourselves in

Disagree. I'm not sure he would make a good/great OC hire, BUT you would know the OC is succeeding or failing on his own merits. Now, we have a HC who appears to have lost his touch a bit and may not be allowing an OC to really do his job. The resulting mishmash of offensive ideas and playcalls is going nowhere.

ETA: I'm not saying Mason would definitely be an upgrade, but the situation would certainly be DIFFERENT.

you'd have to frick up pretty bad to hire an OC worse than Gus has been the past 3 seasons.

Although I don't think Miles would be that big of an upgrade, I would be down with it just for lulz for a few seasons.

We would have a lot of heart attack finishes, bad QB play and pretty damn good defense. And I bet that JH grass tastes great.

(Also would love to troll the LSU people with Miles).

All have been mentioned.

You also left out PJ Fleck. To me, his resume is more impressive than any of the other 40ish crowd of coaches.

It really looked like last year Jimbo was actually considering the LSU job. Would he be a possibility?

No. Would you leave FSU and 10 wins a year for Auburn ?
