Willie Anderson is on this year's ballot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Is this is first nomination?
It seems like he's been gone quite a few years now, so surprised to see his name pop up so much later. I think he had retired around 2007 I think....

Is this the first time Willy got the votes to be considered? How long is he eligible?
Yes, this is the first time Willie has been a finalist. I think he's been a semifinalist pretty much every year he's been eligible (you have to be retired for 5 years)
Patrick Willis is also a first time finalist, in his second year of eligibility.
Andre Johnson, DeMarcus Ware, and Devin Hester are first time eligible and first time on the ballot.
I'm not sure how long players can remain eligible, I couldn't find the answer on the HOF website or googling.
But Tony Boselli is a 6th time finalist and has been retired 6 years longer than Anderson, so Willie definitely has plenty of time if he doesn't make it this year.

DeMarcus Ware up for the Hall of Fame. I remember being upset when he chose Troy over AU. Hope Big Willie gets in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Tuberville didn't offer Demarcus, he offered Osi. Osi went to Troy because they offered Demarcus.

Ware says Troy was his only offer

Wonder how pissed the Vikings are for letting him go? Dude has been money with the Raiders

I believe he is now 9-9 on kicks with less than 2 minutes in the game. Has yet to miss a kick at his home stadium as well.
Zimmer acted like a dick about cutting Carlson. Haven’t liked him ever since.

I was hoping they'd tie for that melt

Daniel Carlson on pace to be one of the better kickers in NFL history and Mike Zimmer just got fired
I’m never gonna celebrate someone losing their job but there is certainly some irony in that

Historians might note the Carlson cut as one of Zimmer’s career defining moves for the wrong reasons.
That would be well deserved

I think it’s tough to say for sure if Carlson becomes this good if they keep him. I mean maybe getting cut awakened something in him? Idk. I think it’s pretty obvious to say he should’ve definitely been kept a few more weeks, even if they had to bench him while he worked in technique.
But zimmer being a total a-hole about the situation was just totally unforgivable IMO. I literally never liked him after that. To be that condescending about a rookie kicker who is already being annihilated by the media was just a dick move

Ha. It was his entry into the NFL. Zimmer was an idiot for cutting him.

quote:I’ve read a couple places where Carlson said there was a change he wanted to make in his technique but didn’t have time to implement mid-season, so when he was cut he had time to work on it, and he felt like it really helped him. So, yes he probably would not have been the same kicker had he stayed in Minnesota.

Off-season thread, but I’ve seen quite a few predictions that the Carolina Panthers draft Malik Willis at #6. That would be awesome for him.

The Panthers have a definite need at QB.
But they have a CRITICAL need at OL.
Yeah, I know and mostly agree with the conventional wisdom… “Don’t draft for need”… “In the NFL, if you don’t have a legit starter at QB, you don’t have a team “.
A few things with the Panthers right now override that “wisdom”… (1) the 2022 QB draft class is really weak compared to recent history, (2) any rookie QB playing behind the Carolina OL as it currently exists will learn nothing but either injury or running for his life, (3) the need for OL at Carolina is at DefCon 1, and (2) the 2022 OL class is pretty damn solid and has a greater likelihood of bringing Carolina a long-term starter.
Carolina in 2021 traded their 2nd round pick in 2022 for SAM DARNOLD ( )and their 3rd rounder for mediocre CJ Henderson ( ). They only have their 1st, 4th, 5th, a coulple of 6ths, and a 7th. In other words, they only have a single too 100 pick. They had better make it count.
As much of an idiot as Rhule is, he’ll likely take the QB though.

You got it baby. :)
I also heard that Steeler fans after Carlson's kick, flooded his charity sites and donated a ton to his causes.
We support all those that help us...even if we are going to get our asses beat against KC....
