I don't think it reflects badly on Auburn. It basically shows which OC candidates are valuable as they all get new contracts when Auburn makes a call.

I still think Scott from Clemson is a great move as he brings recruiting, QB/WR coaching, and a passing game to the table. He gets to be the OC and does not pose the threat to Gus a big name does. I think he is a bit of a settle after everyone talking about swinging for the fence, but a quality hire with plenty of up side potential.

If y'all have so much time to talk about video games, then surely we have enough time and energy to talk about our shitty recruiting class.

We're ranked 8th and probably will add a few more 4* guys. And I really like Leonard and Alec Jackson, two of our lowest rated commits.

That better?

Has no experience out on his own. We need a play caller

While I agree that we should be aiming high, there is a ceiling to the search. Guys who are above that ceiling are not going to mesh well and take orders from Gus. It's a lot of wasted time even talking to those guys.

This is what we want. We want a play caller with his own system that will tell Gus to burn the Whirly Bird and FB wildcat.

If we don't get an established "big name" we'll end up with another puppet controlled by Gus with Hastings and the whirly bird part of our offense

There's still some chatter out there that we've offered to make Lincoln Riley and very rich man and he hasn't said no.

The general consensus is we're "all-in" for Lincoln Riley and Chip Lindsey is the back up plan.

Chip knows he's the backup plan and we'll likely have to pay out the rear just for this reason.

In other words Chip would come to AU for a paycut but he knows he's Gus's last resort before high school names start to surface. He'll demand and get a premium because he has leverage.

I am good with all of that. Chip seems to understand this is a business.

I keep hearing this.

I don't know why Riley would come here though. This has a lot of smoke though

Money. Power. The SEC west is basically the AL east. The intense competition is what attracts some people. I too don't see why he would leave Oklahoma.

That's the thing though, he is about to make HC money real soon here and he has more power at OU (Stoops has a D background) than he will under Gus

I can see it helping improve his appeal to HC jobs in the SE as he'd recruit and play there but that is risky AF given Auburns situation

All reports state he had the Houston job. For some reason, he took his name out of the hat. I can only assume he wants something larger than a non P5 school. SEC coordinators seem to be the quickest path.

As die hard fans, I think we're too emotionally involved to accurately assess Auburn's "situation". We have a 5 star QB with P5 playing experience coming in, 4 or 5 dynamic young WRs, a stable full of talented RBs, 3 returning starters on the OL with a lot of recruited talent and depth working for a job.

This offensive situation is absolutely loaded with upside and talent. If you can turn this offense into a top 20 unit (should be able to get that done), then you'll be a HC the next year, considering you've done it against the most talented defenses in the country, other than OSU and FSU.

And if he and Gus cannot mesh then we still have Gus in control and $1.3M pissed down the drain and looking for a new HC next year.

This has to be a win-win for Gus and the OC which means it needs to be someone getting a move up that is willing to build with Gus but is not a total puppet. Scott is outside the tree completely, but unproven. HE has worked with O minded HC so he can blend, but is totally unproven, but could bring a great QB coach with him. Lindsey is sort of part of the tree but far enough removed to be a fit but not a puppet. I can see him coming in and being what we need to mesh and advance the O.

The point that Riley has control with a D minded HC makes sense. And he has essentially the same potential on O returning that he would have at AU if not more.

I have a question for you about one of my eyes. My brother in law has a big practice in Dallas. I get all my sun glasses half price.
