That's his job so it doesn't matter. If he didn't discuss it enough, he should have. If you hire a young guy without experience that's a risk you are taking and its your job as the head coach to take that risk on.
Its certainly possible Harsin did discuss it and Davis knew, arrived, and for whatever reason it wasn't for him. But the optics of that don't change. It could just be bad luck for Harsin and he did everything possible, but again its still on his shoulders.
Yep - and this applies to any hire regardless of industry.

Yall gonna think I am crazy, so have at it. But if I were Harsin, I'd go hire Josh Nibblet.

If we're firing him after 2 years, we're gonna look like Florida State, which is a huge dumpster fire right now.
You gotta own this decision for at least 3 years. Unless he somehow finds a job on his own.

? I know him. His personal life is solid. He has a mega church vibe, but that works in Alabama.

He took over for Gus at Ark State, so same issue.
He had 10+ win seasons 5 of 7 years at Boise State. Which is 71% of the time he posted 10 win seasons. Chris Peterson had 10 win seasons 10 of 14 years, which is 71% of his time.
Harsin, as of his short career so far as Head Coach, never posted less than 10 wins more than once in a row. Chris Peterson had a 3 year stretch where he had less than 10 wins.
Sounds like Harsin objectively did better at Boise State, by that metric, than Petersen did.
THen he comes to Auburn to repeat his issue at Ark State.

Yes, I'll take Trovon as WR coach. I will never understand the automatic reaction some fans get. He's not good enough to coach at Auburn. We have hit rock bottom. Ain't no way but up.

You are crazy. Bat shite crazy for that statement. I love Josh but he ain't no QB coach and his offense is boring as hell. He's a great dude and very good coach but nah not OC. Maybe TE coach. Plus Hoover is on the downside of being a power.

Well good thing he left Hoover then

Harsin has already said he is handling the coaching aspect. We need a recruiter, and JN knows the south.

At least we have Evan McPherson's brother Alex McPherson coming to kick for us...

Brent Dearmon! Kid is bright. From Mobile, well respected.

Supposedly Davis took the job, and 30 days later just stopped showing up to work.
I’m not putting that on Harsin. It’s just bad timing before NSD and bad optics. Tracy Rocker did that to Harsin, too. As did Bisaccia to Gus.
Regardless, this is no longer about changing the culture. Kobe Hudson, sure I could see culture needing changing. The day to day stuff is on Harsin.

I've never coached NFL and/ or College so frankly I don't know. But NFL guys should have more of an off season. They aren't recruiting and have less players, they are doing player evals but there's no reason in January and Feb that should be more than a M-F 9-5 type of thing. Hell there's enough coaches you shouldn't have that many player and draft prospects to have to do. You can watch film at night when the kids are asleep, or whatever.
Yea that's probably right. I've read the nfl doesn't really have an "off season" as in, go have winter break before spring practice. But, they aren't spending their "off season" structuring teenager's daily lives or traveling around the country trying to get commits. It's more like planning for the personnel changes and prepping for spring, and yea it's probably more of a 9-5 gig. I'd just be surprised that an NFL guy would get to college and be like "these hours suck I'm out" in just a couple of weeks.
I was thinking about it more from the perspective of preseason and in season which is longer for NFL, and there are a lot of stories of guys sleeping in their offices most of the season, getting in at 4am, etc...

Harsin had a lower win percentage than the 2 Boise HC’s before him.
From 2000-2013 Boise had 23 losses
Harsin had 17 in 6 years.

Harsin will call plays so the next OC needs to be purely a recruiter
