Question for the board: What one aspect of the game, either on O or D, do you think we step up in and see improvement on Saturday? DL play / O sustaining drives / etc? I think our bye week will have proved exponentially advantageous come Sunday.

I'll say DL play just because the staff is admitting the older guys aren't getting it done.

I believe the O will sustain drives better. More completions too.

I agree with Tate. Out of the 14 starting SEC Qb's he is 13th in qb rating ahead of only Worley at UT. I understand he has only been here 8 weeks but after 4 games I expect him to be greatly improved against a below average OM secondary. If he isn't then his seat needs to be hot.

And who are you ready to play moving forward?

Didn't say I would bench him just that his seat needed to be warmed. With that said JJ was neck and neck with him before the season and has a bigger upside so he is certainly a contender along with my personal favorite.

What will determine the W or L for AU, IMO, is going to be 3rd down conversion % and # of first downs. If we can run the ball uber-effectively on OM, we dominate this game.

No, you said his seat should be warm.

Obviously at 3-2, NM would go into the western Carolina game and do just fine. Then he would go on the road for only the second time and have to outscore the reigning Heisman trophy winner adn a top 5 offense. If he does not accomplish that, does his seat get warmer or are we ready to bench him then.

AU would be at 4-3 and 1-3 in the conference.

So at that point we either burn the redshirt of JJ with 5 games to play or go with Wallace who is not an SEC QB for the Fl Atl game before our very difficult November.

So, at 3-1, we are already having this conversation that Jay Tate and others here are starting to have about seats warming up, then I ask...when he does not progress enough against OM and A&M, who are you ready to play moving forward?

I'm thinking ahead to next year. I have come to terms with us being a 6-8 win team this year but I want to be able to take the next step next year and get to 9-10 wins. We aren't going to get there with the 13th best qb in the conference. 4 games of actual experience is worth more than 4 springs and summers combined imo so it is time for Marshall to step up and show that he is the answer. If he can't do it then let Johnson start next week vs W Carolina and build toward next year from there.

Marshall threw for 300+ yards and 3 TDs against MSU... can anyone name the last AU QB that accomplished that in an SEC game?... and now one game later people are talking about some retarded hotseat?

Warm seat, cold seat, yellow seat, blue seat... whatever... bottome line is NM gives us the best chance to win RIGHT NOW... we'd be stupid to burn JJ's redshirt this season, so save the spring discussion for the spring.

Gotcha.

So 5 games is your threashhold for NM.

Does JJ have the same leash length?

They both arrived on campus at the same time and have run through the same number of practices and had the exact amount of time with the coaches.

Assuming we lost to OM and a change was made. Obvious JJ would win against WCU and Fl Atl. He would lose against A&M so that puts him at 2-1 heading into road games against Arky and Tenn.

AU would be 5-3 and 1-3 in the SEC with a true freshman at QB heading into November.

Seems to me that we would be in the exact same spot but we burned a redshirt and cost JJ a full year of eligibility.

If JJ has the same 5 game threashold, he would need to split the Arky and UT games...or I assume we would pull him for either Wallace or go back to NM for our UGA and Bama games.

Hypothetical BS aside, if you want to think about next year...think about Gus having a second year with the same QB for the first time in his coaching career to go along with a stable of RBs and WRs, and a set OL that will be in year three together.

And then we start all over with a redshirt or true freshman in the SEC.

Or Gus gets to have a second year finally with the same QB.

Well if JJ has improved enough he should be able to start next year. Marshall isn't that impressive.

When...in practice?

I am shocked by this. Jay Tate does not seem like the shock jock type beat writer so I was stunned that he wrote that.

I cannot for the life of me believe that we are having this conversation. Gus did not bring in NM to be some bridge QB for JJ. If he did, then NM should sit today. JJ would be better served getting his teeth kicked in for a year than just practicing.

When has a redshirt freshman ever had a strong first year in the SEC? That never happens.

Plenty of upperclassmen QBs improve from Year 1 to 2. It happens every year.

It has been 4 games. 8 wins was everyones ceiling and we are well on our way. WCU, FLU, UT are wins to me. That leaves OM and one more. Why go through a QB battle when our goal is accomplished?

Against the Faggies D, this could totally happen if Holland does not play in the game.

Because NM ceiling might be 7 or 8 wins.
