Starting a separate thread so the fall camp one doesn't get hijacked by QB talk.

Someone posted some notes from PM this morning.

quote:

PM thinks race between Stidham and White is closer than people think. Still believes Stidham is trending and will probably be named the starter next Monday after the scrimmage but says to not count White out. Also thinks if White loses the job he will still continue to be a good teammate and be ready to go if needed

I wonder what closer than people think means.

Didn't Sean add some weight this summer? Also, did he work with a QB coach?

Also, I wonder how much of this has to do with knowing the offense and if CL's scheme fits SW's talents better.

My understanding is White has had a good fall. It's closer in that Stidham hasn't just blown White off the field. Stidham has the bigger upside but it sounds like White has held his own. Supposedly he's gotten a bit bigger

If White is our best QB on the team again this year, then

I really don't get this fear about White starting. First off, if Stidham is as good as expected, I can't see Gus screwing the pooch. He's not a sure thing though, and White was damned effective WHEN HEALTHY. Maybe it's just years of low expecations and general awfulness that I've experienced, but I assume very little until the season starts. And by "starts" I mean that I actually have current-season football on which to react.

I don't ever think White's passing potential was an issue, it was his health and awkward fit in the system that was a problem. IF he added some mass, and the addition of an OC that is more open to passing; I can see SW making noise.

He did struggle throwing down field and we always bogged down in the red zone. Some of the later was coaching and scheme but we aren't reinventing the wheel here so the scheme isn't changing too much.

His downfield acc is a problem. That has always been a staple of Gus. This alone is why JS will start, but it will be nice to finally have a few options at backup.

I cannot stand watching Sean fall down after every throw...

Sean was far from perfect. His downfield throws were lacking. I'd be curious to look at what he did pre-injury and post injury though on throws more than 10,15, and 20 yards down the field. As for the coaching, we're being told that Lindsey is getting more free reign, and his offense seems to match well with White's skills. I'm not at all saying I want White to start, but it's not doomsday if he does start. I will be watching a bit anxiously though.

My beef with White is the weird system fit, but he also had his best games vs lower teams. Ole Miss and Arkansas's defenses are terrible. He is a good kid, very competitive but in the long run, he is what he is. I think he is serviceable for us. That's about it.

I just think 8-4/9-3 is our ceiling with White and thats why I am hesitant against him.

No mention of Chandler Cox as QB? This thread is pointless.

Do we have any "insiders" on this board who will be there? How about that guy that saw Stidham's Groupme message? Surely he will be there, eh?

A healthy white all year last year and we are 10-2 at worst.

Y'all just need to accept that White Jesus is going to lead us to the promise Land this year.

My arm might be stronger than Sean's, and I have an average, backyard white dude arm

Seriously, what is the 411 on Chandler Cox?

WHERE IS HE AT on the QB depth chart?

I'd give a dollar to see a reporter ask Gus that very question.

This is the same shite as last year, and I dont know what Gus was watching in practice, but it was clear SW was our best option at QB. I put zero stock in anything these two say.
