The ultimate gateway drug.

I don’t know if you’re kidding but I think I actually believe this. Most Kids in my youth group (much later than 80s) did everything their youth pastor told them not to do.

I was just kidding. I don't have any experience in that. I'm guessing most kids do what adults tell them not to do.

If a gateway drug is a substance you take before you start taking the shite that kills you quick, wouldn't alcohol be the king of gateway drugs?

I woud certainly say yes. It certainly could be looked at it like that since it is probably the first "drug" people experiment with.

I probably look at this issue more of a " people are stupid and weak" more than most of you. Over the past 10 years, I have lost all hope and belief that people are good and will do whats best for each other. I hate that I have fallen in the rabbit hole but it is what it is. People in general disappoint me. it is probably a selfish narcissistic thing for me to believe but it is true so I dont really hide it. I would certainly not be the right person to discuss this topic with.

I am self centered enough to believe that "I" cant get hooked on anything or addicted to anything. Though I do have a "all in" attitude about most stuff in life, I feel like I can pull myself away from the fire when I start to burn. But that is me and how I view myself. I dont feel the same about others which is the self centered old man a-hole that I am. I have friends who I have lost, one in particular, that let substances ruin them and eventually kill them. A fishing partner that I loved to death did this at 41 years old. I miss him everyday and could not believe how his addiction took him down and there was nothing I could do to help him

It’s pretty much proven that alcohol is usually the first substance taken first.
Weed second most common first substance.
Tobacco, third.

For me, it was tobacco first. Alcohol second. And that’s where I’ve been since.

As devils grass market gets more prevalent and licit, I’m curious to see the numbers...

As someone who has consumed plenty of all three, quitting smoking cigarettes was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I know some people who were able to just quit and go cold turkey and that was it, but man it was a struggle for me.

Same here. The recidivism rate for nicotine is higher than that of heroine. If we are making shite illegal (and I’m not for that), cigarettes would be tops on my list.

The reason we are not going to ever see that is money. Lots and lots of money.

Which is just another thing that worries me about moving forward with more substances. It will just be more money. More for insurance, more for hospital visits and more for prescription drugs.. For everyone. Not just the druggies...

Sadly a lot of people don't realize that. The insurance will be required by the Gov to offer rehab in their policies and those prices would be spread across the board. And it will be the same for medical procedures etc that could be related to taking those drugs and passed along to others as well.

I was out of work for 4 months because of a nasty herniated disc & degenerative disc disease. I hope I never have to take prescription meds on that level ever again. Loss of appetite, drenched with sweat in the middle of the night, and just basically being a barely functional zombie. Tossed out the remaining meds and basically said "F it, I'd rather be in pain".

Conversley, during this time, my girlfriend returned from a family-related trip to California with a weed vape cartridge in tow for me...I gotta say, for that one week I had it, it did everything I'd hoped the meds would do, and without that icky feeling of my skin crawling either.

The demonization of weed is so freaking yesterday's news, so of course it figures I live in one state and work in another where it's legal in neither
