The idea was TOTALLY opposite on this 3rd down from the last. Mug up at the LOS, blitz, and play 0 coverage. It's man coverage, I guess ... But Jordan is backpedaling at the snap. I would need to be taught what this is because I don't know what it is.
I brought it up earlier but it is an outright lie to say in this day and age defense has to be bend and break. I see many teams stonewall and get stingy. Oklahoma, Indiana, Michigan, and Georgia are just a few recently. Bama and LSU looked very good yesterday. It is a choice to recruit to play soft.
As much as Durkin deserve his flowers he also doesnt, because he allows drives to needlessly continue.

There has to be a line of reasoning here. I'm just not seeing it. I don't understand Durkin's decision making process a lot of the time.

This is just nonsense when your offense is way below average and goes 5 and out in under 2 minutes.
He did the job on a talented but turnover prone QB. Actually forced two turnovers.

4th down conversions started ramping up though.
It equaled out to 50% off the field rate which still isnt very good.

You have to acknowledge what happened and tell me with a straight face that's sound strategy. Tell it to me while acknowledging Will Herring played on a defense that was stingy for all real estate. 4th and 1 or 3rd and 15 the other team never got close.
We dont give Durkin 35 points to play with out there. He chose to reup. He has to be dominant while our offense flounders out there. His choice to be here. Cant just excuse that soft bullshite just because our OL is shite.

Good point.
They kind of figured out you could get chunk yardage on 3rd and long which makes it 4th and go-able.
That has been a big negative of my time watching Durkin at Auburn. Schematic wise, it reads like he's afraid of giving up the big play. Math wise, it probably does favor his strategy to make an offense drive down the whole field as opposed to one big chunk play but man is it unpleasant to watch.

Yea, I think there is something to be said for lining up beyond the 1st down marker and say 2-3 yards before it. I watched LSU do some similar 3rd down looks where they crowded the line, but generally the DB’s were about ~7 or 8 yards off, not 10 or more. Be far enough off to not give up the deep ball, but you have to be close enough to attack the slant so that they can’t hit it and have the 1st down before anyone even touches them.

Agreed. I did think they were better in the 2nd half, that critical 4th & 10 not withstanding.

Was very soft out there. Also, he kept dropping Smith into coverage. It worked once and then not again. Would have liked to have seen him flying off the line at the QB a lot more. We played soft then dropped people into coverage and that little white boy kept making plays.

Well, we played normal to conservative on 3rd and 10, early in the game....
And lived to get a turnover in the next 1 or 2 plays!!!!!
Jordan was in perfect position to make a stop to make it 4th and 2, just outside of field goal range. Textbook!!
A little bit of a poor break down by Jordan, but also just plain misfortune, as Melendez, giving great effort actually forcefully pushed the wideout forward. And Jordan got run over.
Yeah let's play tight early in the game, with a new comer corner and get beat for a touchdown with the flick of the wrist by an NFL arm.
Absurd.

Jared has a special skill set and I can see there being a place for that kind of thing, but he was just doing it way too much. As soon as they saw Lagway limping and ankle wrapped, I would have gone to Jared and others on the ends and said, "Go get him!".
