I think they changed that rule now where they pick up the flag too
I think the rationale was that penalties aren't reviewable and refs missing calls is part of the game.

Why not give the kicker a reward by placing the ball at the 20 for a kickoff that goes through the end zone and can't be returned?

At this point, just get rid of the damn thing. It is clear they are in CYA mode over possible future litigation.

I think there are going to be some returners that get their heads knocked off for the first year until the players adjust to the rule.
