He'll visit TAMU on the 24th and SCAR the 31st.

“Coach Hutzler has been hitting me up since he got to Auburn,” Smith said. “We are talking more, getting to know each other, and it will be nice to get over there to see things. The new staff at Auburn has been on me hard.”

“I could commit pretty soon,” he said. “I’ve thought about committing in February or March. I want to take these visits, then I will start thinking more about it.”

Legit question. Do we want any freshman next year? Unless they are ready to step onto the field and contribute year one then we are paying to develop players who may leave.
I can see the progression for most players being high school, G5 team for 2 years, P4 school.

Made 4* OT Layton Von Brandt's Top 8 which includes UF, PSU, VT, ND, TN, LSU, and Ohio State. He's 6'6 270 and is #66 overall (#8 OT. #1 in DE)

This could be a real strategy. High school recruits have to either be sure fire starters or glue guys who dont have an overly high opinion of themselves.
Or only take guys who are repped by a loving and reasonable parent. Anyone being "shopped" should be ignored. If they are being shopped now, they'll be shopped every off season.

Recruit 1 QB a year, sometimes it’ll work out, sometimes it might not. Stay true to your evaluations is what I would say.
Remember when Gus stopped recruiting QBs that fit best in his system. That along with lack of OL recruiting was his deathnail

Auburn is a team to watch for 4* S Chance Gilbert per Chad Simmons.
He's a 5* composite on 247 (#33 overall, #3 S and #2 player in GA)
Both on3/rivals and 247 have him as a 4* but composite has 5*

Looks like we’re going to sign a top QB this class, and 2 top 5 signal callers are visiting, Abrams this weekend and Adams the 31st

I don’t really have a solid basis for this opinion but I really think this staff is going to kill it in recruiting
